The 7 African Romances, Op. 17 for voice and piano has words by Paul Laurence Dunbar and music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Published in 1897, it comprises of 7 songs, "An African Love Song", "A Prayer", "A Starry Night", "Dawn", "Ballad", "Over the Hills" and "How Shall I Woo Thee?", of which the last is arranged here.This arrangement was requested by Besses o' th' Barn Band for the The Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Festival held in Liverpool on 11 October 2025. The song is wonderfully lilting with moments to indulge in the music.This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band and either solo B-flat cornet, solo E-flat soprano cornet or soprano singer. It also has alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. This arrangement of O Little Town of Bethlehem is based on the beloved carol text by Phillips Brooks (1835-1893), set to the familiar St. Louis tune composed by Lewis Redner in 1868. Originally written for a Christmas Sunday school service, the melody famously came to Redner in a dream the night before it was needed - an origin story that mirrors the spontaneous inspiration behind this brass band setting. Fendall Hill's arrangement was prepared for Sovereign Brass (Wednesbury, England) and included in their 2023 Christmas CD. Lyrical and reverent, this version captures the timeless beauty of the carol while offering a fresh voice for modern brass ensembles. One of Sergei Rachmaninoff's most famous compositions, Prelude in C-sharp minor (Op. 3, No. 2) is part of a set of five pieces entitled Morceaux de fantaisie. It was written when Rachmaninoff was only 19 years old and was first performance by the composer on 26 September 1892 at a festival called the Moscow Electrical Exhibition. This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. The piece has been transposed from the original (for piano) of C-sharp minor to A minor, which better suits a brass band. There is another arrangement of this piece by Sandy Smith (published by Obrasso) which is designed for more advanced ensembles. This rousing fanfare prelude for Brass Band and optional Organ by Kenneth Downie is based on the monumental hymn Now thank we all our God, which dates from 17th century Germany. The arrangement is featured on the CD Classic Hymns for Orchestra - The Symphonic Music of Kenneth Downie (available here) as a symphonic brass setting. The arranger writes: 'The depth of the words is underpinned by the grandeur of the music, so I have tried to reflect the same regal approach in my setting for brass band.' £45.00Two Herefordshire Carols (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Vaughan Williams, Ralph - Hindmarsh, Paul
The two traditional tunes that comprise this straightforward setting were sung to Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) by Mrs. Esther Smith of Dilwyn, near Hereford, during one of the great composer's folk song collecting tours of England in the early years of the twentieth century. They were included in Twelve Traditional Carols from Herefordshire, edited by E.M. Leather and Vaughan Williams. The words to which Mrs. Smith sung the first tune were probably drawn from eighteenth century evangelical sources. The editors replaced these with six of the 16 verses of a traditional seventeenth century carol text, Joseph and Mary.The second melody, which appears as the centre piece of this arrangement, was sung to a carol that tells of a farmer who ploughed on Christmas Day. It is in fact a translation of a German traditional carol Gelobet seist du Jesu Christ that was published in Goodly Psalmes and Spiritualle Songes (1546) translated by Miles Coverdale. Vaughan Williams used the title Coverdale's Carol.The brass band settings follow the settings made by Vaughan Williams in 1920 for the Oxford Book of Carols. Since his simple harmonic approach is similar in both settings, three verses of his haunting version of Coverdale's Carol have been folded inside four verses of the slightly more animated treatment of Joseph and Mary. The harmonisations of Vaughan Williams have been given some brass band colour, with some verses taken by soloists from the ensemble. The accompaniment figuration that embellishes the second verse of Joseph and Mary has been used to open and close this arrangement and to bind the verses together.- Paul HindmarshDuration: 5.00

There are several occasions when a brass band is invited to play along with bagpipes and one of the first titles to be mentioned is the American traditional hymn melody, "Amazing Grace". This arrangement was prepared for one such occasion when Brass Band of the Western Reserve, musical director, Dr Keith M Wilkinson, was invited to play at a wedding in 2007. Parts for bagpipes are included in Concert Pitch (as shown in the full score) and in Db, the key in which they are normally pitched.There are optional parts which make the arrangement equally effective without bagpipes. A suggestion when this version is used is to place the cornet soloist at the beginning some distance from the band.

£35.00Carol of the Bells (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Littlemore, Phillip
This popular Christmas piece was composed by Mykola Leontovych around 1916. It is based on a Ukrainian folk chant known as 'Shchedryk', a New Year's carol. However, it was not until after the composer's death in 1921 that it was first introduced to Western audiences, when the Ukrainian National Choir included it on their tour of Europe and the Americas that same year. The film composer John Williams incorporated it into the score for the 1990 film Home Alone and he is credited for bringing it to a wider audience still, although it had been released on Christmas albums by a number of popular artists before that. This transcription for brass band has been adapted from the arrangement by Robert Prizeman, who created it for Libera, the world famous boys choir that he both founded and directs. Their unique, enchanting and, some say, heavenly sound delights audiences throughout the world through extensive concerts, recording and TV broadcasts. This brass band transcription introduces this skilled choral arrangement to a new genre and a whole new audience as well. Duration: 3.00
