Jews in Eastern Europe always had their typical music. Links with gipsy music are never far away. Starting with 3 cadenzas, each for cornet, euphonium and tenorhorn the band has to deal with a difficult and very fast theme of 'Der yid in Yerusholayim'. Virtuosi horns, baritone and flugelhorn often answer the main theme by cornets and euphoniums. Quick drum patterns accompany the whole movement. Growing to a raging climax at the end all possible is asked from the bandsmen as to technique and endurance.

We sail the ocean with stubborn, hardworking but weak hearted Flemish fishermen to the Northern parts of the Atlantic. A sailor is leaving his wife or girlfriend not knowing if he is going to come back soon. Leaving for good fishing grounds around Iceland. This sad song(the first line of the text says; The wind that blows from the east, my love, is not going to blow for ever) is a solo for flugelhorn accompanied by the whole lower brass section. In a certain way of counterpoint tenorhorns, baritones and euphoniums are woven around thesoloist. The warmth from these saxhorn section is coloured by some chords from trombones and a quite virtuosi marimba line.

This finale from the suite Leading Edge is particularly well-suited to brass band. The drums lead into the energetic, dance-like theme that announces the Finale. Although the use of minor keys persists in this movement, the atmosphere is energetic and vivacious. A number of themes are considered before the flugelhorn introduces the theme that will go through a number of guises before emerging later in triumphant form in the whole band. A Song for Bram is a short work, originally composed piano and brass band, and is dedicated to the memory of Bramwell Tovey, a close friend and colleague of the composer, and a conductor, composer, pianist and musician of huge talent, who sadly passed away before his time in the summer of 2022. In this short piece the composer has tried to imagine what kind of tune Bram would have improvised at the piano, something he frequently engaged in. No doubt it would have been a mixture of bluesy jazz, hymn tune, and love song, and this is how the solo piano takes off. In the middle section of a what is a simple tertiary structure, introduced are quotes from two hymn tunes Bram particularly loved, never having forgotten his Salvation Army roots. In this beautiful composition, melodic fragments of the hymn tune Beecher are morphed into a series of variations, showing the melody in various moods from expressive, then quiet and soft, to bright and triumphant in the end. Written as a test piece in the 4th division for the Dutch Brass Band Championships in 2015, the music features challenging solo parts for cornet, soprano cornet, flugelhorn and euphonium.
