The main goal of any training band is to eventually see the players progress through the ranks and ultimately, be placed within the senior band. One of the most popular Euphonium solos in the Brass Band repertoire has now been transcribed and re-arranged for the Eb Instruments of the band. Originally arranged for Michelle Ibbotson on Soprano for Black Dyke, this transcription makes the solo perfect for Soprano Cornet, Tenor Horn or even Eb Bass. The most popular movement from Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A is now available as a beautiful solo for Euphonium (with an optional Tenor Horn soloist part also included). The work was originally composed for Anton Stadler and composed in 1791. This arrangement tests the range of the soloist with some large intervals to contend with during the lyrical melodies, utilising the full range of the instrument. The tender accompaniments also require the band to be sympathetic to the soloist as band show off the controlled nature of their playing.

Originally arranged for Owen Farr, Hushabye Mountain is a well-loved and cherished song by the renowned Sherman Brothers from the 1968 motion picture, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The work is undoubtedly one of the most popular songs from the show. The song acts as an idyllic lullaby, sang by Caracatus Potts as he sends his children to sleep. This arrangement, as a tenor horn solo by Fodens Band's Principal horn Jonathan Bates, features the tuned percussion throughout, and sets the melody initially over a music-box-like idea, before more dreamy and tranquil soundscapes enter.

This attractive composition focuses on the lyrical qualities of two solo instruments: tenor horn and baritone. An expressive theme is initially performed by the baritone; then the tenor horn takes over this melody. A rich dialogue arises, in which the soloists make music in sweet harmony, and then in a 'call-and-response game'. In the B section, the lyricism becomes more virtuosic, and a more playful character comes to light. There is then a gradual build-up to a grand tutti in which the opening theme resounds again. The work ends in a reverie, echoing the dreamy beginning.A Lyrical Duet was commissioned by tenor horn artist, conductor, and teacher Tim De Maeseneer, and is dedicated to him and Katrina Marzella. The work can be heard on Tim's solo CD, Beyond the Paradox, a project that was created in collaboration with Brass Band Willebroek and its conductor Frans Violet.
