£54.99Slavonic Rock March - David Well
According to his teachers, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893), was not particularly gifted. His special talents were acknowledged only in 1865 when he had been working for the Ministry of Finances for some years. In 1866 he was appointed teacher at the Conservatory and applied himself to composing. His oeuvre is fairly extensive and many of his compositions receive a high ranking on the international list of classical music, including his six symphonies, solo concertos (violin concerto and piano concertos), ballets (The Nut Cracker, Swan Lake), and his overtures (1812 and Romeo and Juliette). In 1893 Tchaikovsky died of Cholera after drinking a glass of infectedwater. His Slavonic March is a popular concert piece for symphonic orchestra that is still frequently performed in concert halls. David Well arranged the theme and created a contemporary march in rock style. Tchaikovsky once said to an unsatisfied teacher: 'I will be a great composer within 10 years time.'

March Slav?was composed in 1876 at the request of Nicolai Rubenstein (who had recently spurned Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto, and might have wanted to return to favour with the composer). Tchaikovsky loved Russian folk music--looking to it for inspiration throughout his career--and he makes considerable use of it here. From the opening theme to the final glorious statement of the Czarist national anthem, the march draws on the music of his motherland. It was first performed in a charity concert to support a war effort in the Balkans. He composed and fully scored the march in the short time of just 5 days. At the first performance its impact was such that it had to be encored in full, receiving a tumultuous reception - twice! Duration: 7:20

This march is in 6/8 time and was inspired by a trip on the Gloucester and Warwickshire heritage railway. The City of Truro was the engine which pulled the train. It is the first steam locomotive ever to have reached the speed of one hundred miles per hour. This march is a jaunty enjoyable tune which is a real audience pleaser. It is of a simple standard and could even be attempted by a youth group. An ideal number for playing in a massed band concert with youth.

Edvard Grieg (1843--1907) is best known for his eternally popular Piano Concerto in A Minor, as well as more than 150 songs and 66 lyric pieces. March of the Trolls is from his Lyric Pieces, Op. 54. Trolls are a constant theme in Norwegian folklore and can be viewed as the equivalent of our "boogie man." Far to the north in Norway where the winter storms whip the weather-beaten coasts, you will find dark forests with moonlit lakes, deep fjords surrounded by mighty snowcapped mountains, and long rivers and cold streams cascading down the mountain sides. This is where you might find the irritable, short-tempered trolls coming out of their hiding places after sunset, marching to wreck havoc on unsuspecting Norwegian households. £40.00Pomp and Circumstance March No.1 (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Elgar, Edward - Littlemore, Phillip
Elgar's Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1?was completed in July 1901 although the 'big tune' actually dates from earlier in that same year. It was premiered in Liverpool by its dedicatees, the Liverpool Orchestral Society, on the 19th October. It was repeated in London a few days later by Henry Wood at the Promenade concerts and the result was sensational, the audience roared its applause, and refused to allow the concert to continue. In order to restore order, Wood conducted the march three times - the only time in the history of the Promenade concerts that an orchestral item was accorded a double encore in Wood's lifetime.
