Caribbean Calypso opens the doors to a memorable concert item, with the option of including a local steel drum group to join you. Lots of fun to be had with this unusual combination. Composed by Steve Robson specifically for our Flexi-Collection World Tour Series. Inspired by this wonder of the world, the piece embraces the Chinese style of music which often uses the pentatonic scale. It's a sequence which is something quite unusual to our ears in the western world and can be quickly demonstrated by playing only the black notes on the piano. Sing Praise - Geert Jan Kroon
Sing praise is an upbeat opener or concert piece that is based on the Old Hundredth. It was a commission by Flevo Brass Emmeloord to praise the conductor/teacher Klaas de Jong. I know Klaas as a high-spirited teacher who always devotes his time to guiding young players and developing music ensembles by investing in youth bands and music education. The title is a reference to the hymn tune Old Hundredth and a message to ensembles to sing praise to teachers and youth.

Bertie's Gonna Jumpin'
Bertie's Gonna Jumpin' is dedicated to Bertie, the composer's family cat. Bertie is a cheeky black cat, full of character, who loves to disturb the neighbours! The piece is an up tempo big band tune, featuring the vibraphone. Bertie's Gonna Jumpin' was a winning entry in the 2019 Foden's Band/Love Music Trust Composers Competition and was given its premiere by the Macclesfield Youth Brass Band

As a young man, Andrew Pearce had fond memories of playing Cornet in the local Youth Brass Band, where he first experienced the power and beauty of brass music. After completing 'Maestro' concertino for Philip Cobb, he decided to write a more gentle and lyrical piece for him, which paid homage to his musical roots in the Salvation Army. 'Interlude' is ideal for a proficient solo cornet player in any brass band: tuneful, reflective and elegiac with lots of expression.
