COMPOSER:Tim MiddletonA great new march from Tim MiddletonCommissioned for Busselton Brass Band' s 150th AnniversaryDuration: 3:22Brass Band Concert MarchThe Busselton Brass Band was founded in 1871 and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2021.Named in honour of the whale-ship that shipwrecked in Geographe Bay in 1844, the march opens with a stately introduction and the main melody mimics the rise and fall of the ocean waves around the Busselton Jetty and town.The bass solo is inspired by the town's whaling and fishing history, and then returns to the original melody.The trio changes into 2/4 after the initial 6/8 contrasting the early years of Busselton and the more recent tourism and vineyard history. The trio also has a counter melody second time through to honour the band members who fought in World War I and II.At the end of the trio a D.C. to restate the opening themes, then a rousing finish at the end of the Bass Solo.A must for your summer concerts!

Je te veux, or I Want You, is a valse chantee (sung waltz) by the French composer Erik Satie, with lyrics by Henry Pacory. It was written for Paulette Darty, who first sang it in 1903 at La Scala, Paris, with Satie accompanying. There are various versions that Satie produced, the original for piano and voice, a version for brass 'orchestra', for full orchestra (where a trio section was added), and a version for solo piano (but including the new trio section). This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass, and is of the longer version (with the trio section). As a result, it lends itself to being performed in a various of ways, with the ensemble has the option of selecting the part of it compound ternary form to play: (A-B-A)(C-D-C)(A-B-A). Mercury is a concert march composed in a typically British idiom. In 1990, Jan Van der Roost wrote this piece on the occasion of the 15-year anniversary of his own band: Brass Band Midden Brabant. Like many British marches, the main theme is written in a minor key. Powerful and virtuoso themes characterize the first part of this march, while the trio melody is much more melodical, offering the tenor register to display its lyrical skills. Follows a dynamic passage for trombones and trumpets/cornets, leading to a "grandioso" version of the main trio melody and thus concluding this march in a magnificent way.Duration: 3.00

March Of The Hours (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Soderstrom, Emil
March of the Hours was first performed at Star Lake Music Camp in 1962 with the composer supplying an informative listening guide which was printed in the published score; "The phrases are of 12 crotchets each (three bars) signifying the 12 hours. Up to the trio, the music describes the headlong search for pleasure by the thoughtless. Abruptly, the trio brings 'I need thee every hour', but an episode employing the original theme pushes it aside until it reappears, this time against a background of chimes of the full hour (Westminster chimes). While the hour strikes 12, a paraphrase of the opening strains of 'When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more' is heard. Here the music stops, to be followed by the trumpet sounding (cornets and trombones) and the rest of the band responds with 'When the roll is called up yonder' with a final 'I'll be there'."

This is a traditional Brass Band March written by Joseph Knight. It was commissioned by the East Anglian Transport Museum and 10% of the sales goes straight to that organisation. It was written with the concept of having each section reminiscent of the British comedy films of the 1950's and 60's culminating in a Ealing Comedy styled chase around London at the end of the trio! Good fun and always an audience pleaser.

COMPOSER: Chris Cobon1 - Stone breakersThe Suite opens with the only picture, of the five, which is not in the pointillist style. Several pictures were produced on the Stone Breaker theme, painted in oil on small panels called croquetons. The subjects in the art are breaking stones for use in road building. Musically the piece starts canonically alluding to the repetitive nature of the labour. A more direct, rhythmic link of three hammer blows, are first heard in the opening passages in the percussion. These hammer blows are also built into each third bar of the cannon and, therefore, become embedded into the opening section. Arising from the flurry of activity are two, three bar legato phrases in a majestic style until it falls to a more dramatic sounding of the legato phrase over a resounding of the cannon in a new textural order. This leads to a short, new section, featuring a trombone trio underneath rising scales in the cornet section.2: Bathers at AsnieresBathers at Asnieres was Seurat's first major painting...The canvas is of a suburban, Parisian riverside scene. Isolated figures, with their clothes, piled sculpturally on the riverbank, together with trees, austere boundary walls and buildings, and the River Seine are presented in a formal layout. This moment aims to capture the tranquillity of a summer's day in the park. This painting led the development of the pointillist technique whereby the colours were applied as small dots that combine to form a picture when viewed at a distance. The trombones capture this idea in the opening bars with their carillon-style entries. The 2nd/3rd cornets make a more direct link by individual picking out single notes of a melody being sounded on Baritones and trombones at C. The use of mutes adds a subtle darker side to this movement which nods to the industrial working-class aspects of the painting.3: White DogWhite Dog features a few characters relaxing in the sun, and a white dog with its tail held high. Having two dogs myself, I've taken the idea of an excited dog with a waggy tail as the basis for this short, middle, movement.4: Sunday Afternoonon the Island of La Grande Jatte Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte is arguably Seurat's most famous work.5: Parade de CirqueCircus Sideshow Parade de Cirque encompasses a circus scene's boisterousness, vitality and chaos. However, the painting, constructed with the new pointillist technique, also portrays stillness, calmness and precision. As expected from looking at the picture, the trombone takes centre stage in various locations on either side of the calming circus waltz and pointillist section (I).LM482ISMN : 9790570004829
