Franz Strauss (1822 - 1905) was a famous horn player who held the post of Principal Horn in the Munich Court Orchestra. In that post, he played in the premieres of several Wagner operas. He wrote two horn concerti, as well as other works for horn of which this is the best known. This arrangement was made for Sheona White.

Thames Journey is a 10-minute musical journey that follows the river Thames from its origins, as a few drops of water in Wiltshire, to the point where it meets the open sea at Greenwich. Along the way, Hess draws upon many musical links along the Thames, such as an old Wiltshire melody, morris dancing in Oxfordshire, boating songs from Berkshire and street songs in London. With such rich and diverse sources of music across several counties and centuries, this has quite understandably become one of Hess's most popular works to date. Voices of Spring is one of the younger Strauss' later waltzes, and was written quite a few years later than most of his other great works. It is unusual in that it was introduced not as an instrumental work, but as a vehicle for a coloratura soprano (coloratura meaning prone to elaborate ornamentation). The worked dropped out of the repertoire fairly quickly only to emerge as one of the all-time classics once in orchestral form. St Julien is a town near the French/Belgian border which witnessed several battles during WW1. The composer Arthur W. Hughes (1870-1950) was born in Kingston, Ontario, and left home when he was quite young to perform with circus bands in US. He wrote several marches and a few other compositions but this one, dating from 1918, is the most well-known. The march also works as a fast circus march. Here it has been expertly arranged for brass band by Dr. Keith M. Wilkinson. Liberty Fanfare (Score & Parts) - John Williams
Liberty Fanfare is one of John Williams' lesser-known works, simply because it is not a film theme! In fact, the orchestral original was written for the re-opening of the Statue of Liberty following extensive repairs. Commissioned by Margaret Milligan for Ian, her husband who is the musical director of Callendar Brass, based in Callendar near Stirling in Scotland. With Celtic drums and the use of the Scottish traditional song 'An Eriskay Love Lilt' the piece works very well as a lively concert/2nd half opener or even as a piece to liven up the middle of a concert programme. This Gustav Holst piece contains three Carols: Good Christian Men, Rejoice, God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen and Come, ye lofty, come, ye lowly, (Old Breton Melody) with a little The First Nowell thrown in for good measure. It has been arranged here for the full brass band and has had light percussion parts added to complement. It starts with the band in full chord and then pairs down to solo instruments playing Good Christian Men monophonically. This piece has all of the essential elements of Holst's harmony and tension while retaining the joy of Christmas. It ends quietly and reflectively and works very well in large acoustics such as a Church building or large town hall.

All for One! - Caradog, Hughes & Forslund - Maurice Forslund
'All for One' is a road march based on two well-known Welsh melodies 'Rachie' by Caradog Roberts and 'Calon Lan' by John Hughes. Supporters of Welsh Rugby Union will probably have sung them on more than one occasion. The two melodies have been assembled, added to, and arranged by our colleague Maurice Forslund in Stockholm, and the resulting march is one that is straightforward, in the traditional Brass Band genre, and well within the capabilities of most bands. It works equally well as a concert opener or a processional march for the village fete.
