This is not descriptive music: the tournament is within the band!In the first movement, small groups of instruments are featured - mainly in duets and trios - in a kind of "conversation piece".The second movement is in the form of a Theme with Variations, the band's main soloists being given a chance to show their paces.In the final Scherzo there is more general ensemble playing, although soloists again carry some of the responsibility.

This Gustav Holst piece contains three Carols: Good Christian Men, Rejoice, God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen and Come, ye lofty, come, ye lowly, (Old Breton Melody) with a little The First Nowell thrown in for good measure. It has been arranged here for the full brass band and has had light percussion parts added to complement. It starts with the band in full chord and then pairs down to solo instruments playing Good Christian Men monophonically. This piece has all of the essential elements of Holst's harmony and tension while retaining the joy of Christmas. It ends quietly and reflectively and works very well in large acoustics such as a Church building or large town hall.

VIEW SCORE PDF This three-minute fantasy waltz was commissioned by John Ward, conductor of Fulham Brass Band, to celebrate the first birthday of his daughter, Bonnie. The result is a work that is full of Kenneth Downie's customary imagination and musical signatures. Based on the Scottish folk song My Bonnie lies over the ocean, there is also a subtle reference to Away in a Manger to signify Bonnie's Christmas Day arrival. Abendlied (Evening song) is a sacred motet by Josef Rheinberger for a six-part mixed choir. He wrote the first version in 1855 at the age of 15. It is perhaps his most famous choral work, which looks backward to the great sacred music of the Renaissance.

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy (Bra) - Joe Zawinul - Dave Collins
"Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" is a very cool and laid back piece written by Joe Zawinul in 1966 for Julian "Cannonball" Adderley. Zawinul played an important role in the development of the jazz rock, along with Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin and Miles Davis. Zawinul was best known as the founder of the American jazz fusion band "Weather Report". He was one of the first musicians who used electric pianos and early synthesizers in jazz.
