The well'known hymn I Love to Tell the Story is heard in a New Orleans style before a modulation launches an energetic shout chorus and lively coda. Smooth, relaxed swing style is key throughout.2267: The old rugged cross (Erik Leidzn)This arrangement by Erik Leidzn is an early and lesser'known setting of a well'loved hymn, rediscovered during research into his work. Edited from a rare score found in the USA East Music Department archives, it demonstrates Leidzn's economical and effective style, creating a practical and expressive arrangement at a time when concise, serviceable hymn settings were greatly needed.2268: Heaven came down! This march was written for the North York Temple Band, Toronto, for their tour of the UK in 2012. Inspired by St Paul's words to the Ephesians to 'put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground' (Ephesians 6:13 NIV), the music features three songs of warfare. The first song (S.A.S.B. 989) forms the introduction to the piece and is presented by Percussion and two muted Cornets. The image here is of a distant army approaching with banners aloft. The volume of the music increases as the army approaches:We'll shout aloud throughout the landThe praises of our God,We'll fight beneath our flag unfurled,Kept by his precious blood.

£34.95Judd: Almighty - Roger Trigg
'Almighty' was written for Bandmaster Ross Johnson and Camberwell Citadel Band (Australia) for use on the band's 2009 tour of New Zealand. This energetic work takes its title from the opening line of the well-loved hymn, 'Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation' (S.A.S.B. 19). It is based on the hymn tune 'Lobe den Herren' (T.B. 721) and whilst the tune is only heard in its entirety once, fragments of the tune can be heard throughout the music. The music is a shout of acclamation to the King of Kings.

Commissioned by the Swiss Christian Brass Band Association in celebration of their 150th anniversary, the title 'Paean' means a shout of thanksgiving and praise. It is also the composer's personal expression of gratitude to God following major surgery. Although 'Paean' includes three fairly contemporary Christian songs, it is not intended to be played in any kind of rock or jazz style. The idiom is quite firmly rooted in brass band tradition. The opening fanfare-like section begins in celebratory mood before becoming more contemplative through the song 'Father God, I wonder'. A change of tempo heralds the statement of the thematically significant song 'Hosanna' before immediately moving to 'Faithful God'. Following a fugato the music retraces its steps to a triumphant restatement of the opening music.
