The Pohutukawa Stands - Peter Meechan
The earthquake that hit Christchurch in February 2011 took the lives of 181 people. Being asked to write this work in their memory was an honour, but I didnat want it to simply be performed as a memorial. I wanted to compose a work that conveyed the sadness and grief for those lost - a work of remembrance - but also a piece of music that represented peace, hope and strength.The title and dedication come direct from the commissioners of the work, Woolston Brass Band. The Pohutukawa Trees stay standing and secure, defiant of the earthquake, in Christchurchas aGarden Citya, and the Pohutukawa tree also has special significance beyond their physical appearance.According to Maori mythology, the spirits of the dead travel to Cape Reinga on their journey to the afterlife to leap off the headland and climb the roots of the 800 year old Pohutukawa tree and descend to the underworld to return to their traditional homeland of Hawaiiki-a-nui, using the Te Ara Wairua, the 'Spirits' pathway'.The Pohutukawa Stands is dedicated to the lives lost in the Christchurch earthquake.

Commissioned by Gareth Malone for Series Four of BBC TV's 'The Choir' and first performed by Malone and The Military Wives Choir as part of The Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on 12 November 2011, in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen. The text is taken from poems, letters and prayers written by the Military Wives, selected and adapted by Paul Mealor, and a passage from the Book of John. Selling a staggering 556,000 copies in the week leading up to Christmas, more than the rest of the Top 12 combined, Wherever You Are became the UK's Official Christmas No. 1 of 2011. A wind band version is also available. A contribution from the sales of the sheet music will be donated to the two nominated charities: The Royal British Legion and SSAFA Forces Help.

£48.26Perspectives from Gallipoli (Brass Band) Fendall Hill
This powerful and evocative work by Australian-New Zealand composer Fendall Hill pays tribute to the ANZAC soldiers who passed through Weymouth, Dorset during World War I. Inspired by first-hand accounts, the piece follows the emotional journey of a young soldier - from eager enlistment, through the harrowing Gallipoli campaign, to recovery and reflection in Weymouth. Structured in four movements, the music captures anticipation, fear, fierce resistance, and eventual healing, culminating in a moment of remembrance. The hymn tune Wareham -written by Dorset composer William Knapp - features prominently as a thematic thread, honouring the region's historical connection to the ANZAC legacy. A deeply moving addition to the brass band repertoire, this work is both a musical narrative and a heartfelt gesture of gratitude to the people of Dorset for their care and ongoing commemoration of the ANZACs. !!I Vow to Thee My Country. Originally for unison voices with orchestra, Holst adapted it as a hymn tune and called it Thaxted , named after the village where he lived for many years. Because of the sentiment in the words it has now become a staple of Remembrance services.The American Composer, Geoff Knorr, incorporated Holst's music into his score for the strategy-based video game Civilisation, where it is used to depict the England of Elizabeth I.
