Composed by Frederick Crouch with lyrics by Marion Crawford, this easy listening piece was popular during the American Civil War years. The term "Mavourneen" is derived from Irish Gaelic "My Beloved.". Now skilfully arranged as a cornet solo by Andi Cook, the work is open to soloists of most standards and was recently recorded on the final James Shepard Versatile Brass CD, Legacy which has increased it's popularity again within the Brass Band movement.

I composed the song "Vidda" after I got my ultimate boy's dream fulfilled; To fly one of the Air Force's F-16 fighter jets! We flew out from Norwegian city Bodo on to the Finnmark plateau, where we flew so-called "low level" (at low altitude). It was such a great experience for me that I immediately wrote the song "Vidda" based on my experience of the trip. Here, I try to describe the meeting between the technical perfection of a machine that surpasses most of the various forces in it's escape through the magnificent scenery passing at great speed, and the pilot who is alone with both the adventure and responsibility. The drums which start the song is meant to describes theenergy in the power of the plane, while the lonely and kind of melancholy melody from the trumpet in the beginning describes the feelings of the pilot. As the song develop, we pass both the mountains and big beautiful plateaus with g-forces quivering body. Hopefully you will share some of my experiences through this song. Have a nice flight! Composed October 2014 by Ray Farr, based on a religious folk-song, or psalm, from Valdres in Norway. The words to the hymn, which was written by Olof Kolmodin in 1742, warn us to 'tread warily, my soul'. Ray has adapted the music into a lively Norwegian-style dance with an equally strong warning for people not to tread on anyone's toes. The piece was first performed at the Brass in Concet competition "Siddis Brass" by Jaren Hornmusikkforening in November 2014.

Landscapes is a work structured around two main ideas. On the one hand, the music freely paints some of the superb landscapes I've seen during several of my trips around the world. Listeners should, however, not be influenced by this programmatic framework and are encouraged to build their own 'mind pictures'.On the other hand, Landscapes constitutes a test piece for each section of the brass band. Indeed, each musical landscape highlights a particular register. A small group of soloists is given the opportunity to fully display its skills in dialogue with the rest of the band (the tutti), hence the name 'concerto grosso'. Landscapes also relies on the band's different soloistmusicians when it comes to express highly complex, musically and technically challenging passages.
