Originally Cornfield Rock was written by Jacob de Haan as a version for male choir. It was based on a text by William Shakespeare on a melody of Thomas Morley (It was a lover and his lass). The original melody however was abandoned completely and in its place Jacob de Haan created a new one in rock style. The title refers to the text: That o're the green corne fields did passe.

£59.99Mercury - Jan Van der Roost
Mercury is a concert march composed in a typically British idiom. In 1990, Jan Van der Roost wrote this piece on the occasion of the 15-year anniversary of his own band: Brass Band Midden Brabant. Like many British marches, the main theme is written in a minor key. Powerful and virtuoso themes characterize the first part of this march, while the trio melody is much more melodical, offering the tenor register to display its lyrical skills. Follows a dynamic passage for trombones and trumpets/cornets, leading to a "grandioso" version of the main trio melody and thus concluding this march in a magnificent way.

Artemis
Artemis is the Greek goddess of hunting and forests. In western art she is often pictured with deer, lions or bears with a bow in her hand. The tempo of this march is stately and the themes are "concertante" in character making Artemis best suited as a concert march rather than a street march. Technically this march is not too difficult although at times some dexterous fingering is necessary. The trio melody is especially lyrical and offers various sections within the band the possibility to show off their skill in playing the expressive melody. This excellent new concert march is sure to become a classic and be performed time and time again.

Fanitullen is a lively, beautiful 'Sl?tt', i.e. an old Norwegian melody which is played on a traditional 'Hardingfele' (Hardanger fiddle).Because of its violent rhythm and exciting character, playing a Fanitullen for a long time was considered improper. It was believed that a person playing this melody would come under the influence of the devil. Therefore, Fanitullen could be regarded as a kind of Rock'n Roll from the 18th century.Tom Brevik's adaptation is based on a composition for piano by Ole Olsen (1850-1927) Fanitullen is een levendige, mooie 'Sl?tt', een oude Noorse melodie die gespeeld word op een traditionele 'Hardingfele' (Hardanger viool).Door de heftigeritmiek en het opzwepende karakter, werd het spelen van een Fanitullen gedurende lange tijd als niet kies beschouwd. Aria was commissioned by and written for the remarkable Tenor Horn player, Sheona White. The work opens with an accompanied recitative, which leads to a change of key where the main melody is presented. This, in turn, serves as an introduction to another melodic idea, marked calmato. The band takes up this theme and then takes centre stage with a passionate repeat of the main theme, which is completed by the soloist. A Cornet then plays the calmato theme against which the soloist plays a counter melody. This leads to a return of the opening recitative which brings the work to a peaceful close. A fantastic new addition to the solo repertoire for this much neglectedsolo instrument.

£34.95Trusting Faith (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts)
This piece is based on the melody Faith is the victory (T.B. 128) and throughout the solo we follow a person's journey of faith. In the first movement, the bold and confident opening depicts a seemingly strong and certain faith, although perhaps a little naive and immature. The music suggests that if we are certain enough, then we will see our prayers immediately answered and will witness miracles. But what happens when we don't see those miracles happen, or our prayers seem unanswered? Doubt creeps in and the music quickly becomes a full struggle continuing through to the end of the moment.What do you do when you faith amounts to something other than what you thought it to be? The beginning of the second movement reflects this questions and starts hesitantly and full of doubt. Soon, a new melody is introduced, Trusting as the moments fly (T.B. 263). The words of the chorus remind us that true faith should bot be affected by fears or disappointments, that our trust in God should remain. Realising that a faith that holds firm, though being tested over time, becoming deeper and stronger, is a liberating truth. We no longer need to struggle in our strength alone, but can lean on God instead.When we lean on God, reset in his care, and feel. safe in his hands, then faith has really become our victory. We will then become strong disciples who can meet life's various challenges without wavering or being afraid. This is depicted in the final movement of the solo when both melodies, whose messages complement each other, are woven together in an explosive finale.

This beautiful hymn is one of trust and faith, building in confidence 'till the night is gone.' This arrangement follows that line of confidence. The melody begins unaccompanied, which is to say 'alone', and the eventual accompanying voices enter sombrely. Instead of a traditional final cadence, the 'leading of the light' continues, using the first four notes of the hymn as a motif that leads to a second, more positive statement of the melody, underscored by a walking motion. The positivity grows and lasts through a final grand statement of the hymn. A short meditative coda follows, and the arrangement ends with a solo note of reflection.
