Andrew Batterham's tour de force Trumpet Concerto showcases the incredible spectrum of emotions the trumpet can convey, in the hands of a dedicated performer. The music ranges from Classical to minimalism, ballads to fanfares, culminating in a wild dance full of stamina and energy. Commissioned by ABC Classic through the ABC Fresh Start Fund, Concerto was premiered by David Elton, Principal Trumpet with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (previously with London Symphony Orchestra). This brass band version was premiered by David and Victoria Brass, conducted by Matt van Emmerik. The original trumpet with strings, and trumpet with piano versions are available from Wirripang publishers. 'The Crowning' is a ceremonial fanfare and chorale based upon the hymn tune 'Westminster', the London Abbey in which coronations and subsequent 'crownings' take place at the change of every Monarch. You will hear 62 bass drum strikes in the intrada representing the 62 gun-salute which accompanies the ceremony as the 'trumpets sound and bells ring out in the Abbey'. .

'Nightfall in Harlem' is a Flugel Horn solo in two short sections, each depicting a scene in the New York ditrict of Harlem, situated at the north end of Central Park. There is a heavy influence of jazz and blues throughout this solo with the opening 'Central park by night'; a moody and sleazy depiction of the bright lights of the New York skyline which engulf Central Park followed by the virtuosic 'Buskers', paying homage to the many jazz musicians who line the pavings of the park throughout the year.

He fights till his last breath before ascending to Asgard. In the slower movement, he can see the breath-taking beauty of the landscapes behind the gates, but before entering he has to prove his worth first in trial and combat. In the finale of the piece, the Viking finally gets to enter Asgard and spend his afterlife there.

DescriptionThe band's uniform badges feature a significant local landmark, a transmission tower officially known as The Arqiva Tower but known more colloquially to locals as 'Emley Moor mast'. The current elegantly tapered concrete sculpture, the tallest freestanding structure in the UK at 1084 feet, is the third mast on this site and was built between 1969 and 1971 after the catastrophic collapse of the previous structure.On 19 March 1969 a combination of extreme icing and strong winds caused the tubular mast to collapse across Jagger Lane and the chapel opposite - fortunately, despite the fact that the organist was in the chapel practising, nobody was injured. Several million people lost their BBC2 and ITV signals, until the Independent Television Authority managed to set up a temporary transmitter nearby!Just over two years later the new mast was operational, and despite initial opposition from some locals who feared another, potentially worse, collapse, Emley Moor Mast is now a popular local landmark and a grade II listed building. In 2015 the mast was illuminated with coloured lights at night to mark the 'Grand Depart' of the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire.You can listen and follow the score in the video below:

PROMISED LAND, The (Brass Band Set) - Kenneth Downie
The Promised Land was commissioned by the Buy As You View Band and first performed by them as their own choice test piece at the European Brass Band Contest 2006 in Belfast. The story of Moses leading the Hebrews out of Egypt to find the Promised Land is one of the most dramatic to be found in the Bible. This music, although continuous, seeks in its seven main sections, to portray something of the drama found in the story.
