Henry Purcell (1658 1695) is generally considered as one of the greatest English composers. He incorporated Italian and French stylistic elements into his compositions and made uniquely English baroque music. He has a rich production as composer, with works for orchestra, church, scene and vocal. In 1692, three years before his dead, he composed music to The Fairy Queen, who is a masque or semi opera who is a revised version of William Shakespeare's wedding comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream. This arrangement of Symphony is the overture to act number four.

Sue Hopkins has shown great creativity in crafting this arrangement of Glazunov's 'Autumn' movement, a bacchanale from his ballet The Seasons, hence its fondly referenced title of Autumn Bacchanale.Alexander Glazunov (1865 - 1936) was a Russian composer, music teacher and conductor. He was a child prodigy and was taught privately byRimsky-Korsakov, who said Glazunov's musical progress did not increase day by day but hour by hour. He began composing at age eleven and wrote his first symphony at age 16 in 1881 and it was premiered one year later.His ballet The Seasonswas first performed by the Imperial Ballet in St Petersburg on 20 February 1900 and was choreographed by Marius Petipa.It was written in one act and four scenes, and this piece represents the moment when all The Seasons take part in a glorious dance while leaves from autumn trees rain upon their merriment.

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor is a British composer, who, from a young age, showed talent on the violin and entered the Royal College of Music, studying with Charles Villers Standford. His music become so popular that his Hiawatha trilogy was the second most performed choral piece (joint with Mendelssohn's Elijah, and only beaten by Handel's Messiah) with choral societies up and down the British Isles. In fact, Hiawatha was arranged by Charles Godfrey as a test-piece for the 1902 National Brass Band Championship of Great Britain, held at Crystal Palace.Commissioned by the theatre impresario Herbert Beerbohm, Coleridge-Taylor composed incidental music for His Majesty's Theatre London production of the Shakespeare play, Othello, in the West End, in 1909. In 1912, the play opened to the public, with a suite of five movements put together soon afterwards. The Dance, arranged here by Rob Bushnell, makes a great concert opener.This arrangement is for the British-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. Handel's Music For The Royal Fireworks was composed in 1749 to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle and the end of the War of the Austrian Succession. The site chosen was the fashionable upper part of St. James Park, which was becoming known at that time as Green Park. The Green Park 'Machine', which housed the pyrotechnics was an elaborate affair adorned with "statues and other figures, festoons of flowers, and other lustres". It was announced that there would be some 10,000 rockets and other devices to be let off, all culminating in a grand, burning sun with 'Vivat Rex' at its centre. There were also rumours that the event was to be accompanied by an impressively large band of military music and mention was made of "40 trumpets, 20 french horns, 16 hautboys (oboes), 16 bassoons, 8 pairs of kettle drums, 12 side drums, a proper number of flutes and fifes; with 100 cannon to go off singly at intervals". It is unlikely that Handel had ever conceived such forces and it was merely the promoter's hyberbole, not least because it was unlikely that there were sufficient numbers of extra military musicians available that could read music, as most played from memory. It is also likely that Handel, and his publisher, were conscious that future performances would be hindered by such forces. The autographed score lists the instrumentation as 9 trumpets, 9 french horns, 24 hautboys, 12 bassoons, 3 pairs of kettle drums and up to 4 side drums. The work is in five movements, although Handel's original score did not indicate in which order they should be played. However, in this score they are arranged to be played as follows: Overture; Bour?e; La Paix; Minuets; La R?jouissance. Duration: 19:00
