£10.00Breath of Souls - Study Score
Breath of Souls was commissioned by Weyland and Yvonne Roberts. It was composed especially for the 100th National Brass band Championships of Great Britain at the Royal Albert hall on October 15th 2011.Weyland has worked in science for many years and has always been fascinated by nature's capacity to grow and rebuild regardless of Mother Nature's catastrophic power. This is evident with the news of tsunami, forest fires, earthquakes and volcanic disasters around the world where animals, plant life and humans have overcome adversity and have demonstrated that unique regenerative quality.Speaking about the piece composer Paul Lovatt-Cooper commented: "With Breath of Souls I wanted to compose a piece of music that was a celebration of life. Not only that, but a piece of music that from the very first notes heard in the percussion and cornets, is bustling with activity, emulating that in life everything that is living has a soul and breathes - nothing stays still and everything keeps moving and growing.Just like life itself Breath of Souls also grows musically with each bar. You will hear many and various motifs and ideas grow and develop as the piece develops."

This engaging major Christmas work features three carols or songs associated with the place of Christ's birth: Once In Royal David's City, O Little Town of Bethlehem (Forest Green) and How Far Is It To Bethlehem? During Old Testament times, the city of Jerusalem had been considered the 'City of David', as the political and spiritual capital of Israel. However, after Christ's birth, that name was given to the town of Bethlehem - a quiet farming village in the countryside. This new designation is first mentioned in the Gospel of Luke: ''For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.' (Luke 2:11) A variety of moods are used to express:- The crowds of people arriving in Bethlehem to be taxed, overtaking the town, leaving no room for a young, pregnant Mary and her husband.- The stillness of the countryside on the eve of Christ's birth.- The excitement of worshippers celebrating the birth of a Saviour. A Christmas Overture - Nigel Hess
Nigel Hess' vivacious and colourful A Christmas Overture, originally commissioned as an orchestral work by John Rutter for his 2007 Christmas Festival, proved an instant success with audience and orchestra alike. Traditional carols, skillfully juxtaposed and interwoven, provide the thematic material. These include Ding Dong! Merrily On High; Il Est N Le Divin Enfant; Infant Holy, Infant Lowly; Personent Hodie; We Wish You A Merry Christmas and Angels From The Realms Of Glory, which brings the overture to a majestic close. Fragments of other carols appear along the way to enrich the texture of what is surely one of the most attractive pieces written for the festive season.Brass Band Grade 4/5.Duration: 7 minutes, 30 seconds

'Night Flight' was composed for the Foden's Band's appearance at the 2021 Brass in Concert Championships held at The Sage, Gateshead. The band's theme encompassed a large range of monsters and creatures and this work depicts one of the most notorious monsters in folklore; Count Dracula. Throughout this short, virtuosic showpiece for Soprano Cornet and Euphonium, you can hear multiple strains of Mussorgsky's 'Night on a Bald Mountain' (with which Foden's Band opened their programme). . .

This evocative music portrays an underwater escape from the clutches of the legendary, multi-tentacled sea creature, the Kraken. From the mysteriousness of the seabed, the awakening of the beast, an exciting chase ensues as you evade capture. The work is full of excitement and energy, balancing myth alongside a cinematic sound world. Originally composed in 2017 for Jaren Hornmusikkforenig , Escape the Kraken! was the finale of the concept programme Twenty-Thousand Leagues Beneath the Sea . The work is published here in its 2019 revision, as performed at the Brass In Concert championships by the Flowers Band in their award-winning programme Captain Nemo's Forgotten Journal. "This is silly!", this was the reaction to one of my band members who enjoyed this arrangement of the classic Silent Night. Imagine, if you would, that Franz Xaver Gruber had known more than three chords on the guitar and that he had been born in in the 20th centaury. Also please imagine the tune in 4/4 rather than 6/8. It is re-arranged here as if it had been a film score. It is a real talking point and is something completely different for your Christmas repertoire.
