Title: Hymne A L'Amour Composers: Marguerite Monnot & Edith Piaf Arranger: Andrew Duncan Instrumentation: Brass Band Publisher: Musikverlag Frank Description An arrangement of the beautiful French song Hymne A L'Amour arranged for brass band by Andrew Duncan This arrangement was originally sung by Edith Piaf then Josh Groban and more recently by Celine Dion in a memorable performance on the Eiffel Tower at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Cooperation Band conducted by Katrina Marzella played this arrangement at Brass in Concert 2025 as the finale of their winning performance and was an audience favourite. It has been much shared on social media and can also be streamed on World Of Brass Play. The arrangement for brass band can be played with and without a marimba. A rousing fanfare for brass and percussion, this work by Andrew E. Lawson was the winner of the prestigious Dallas Winds Fanfare Competition 2019. Here it is has been transcribed for brass band by Andrew Wainwright. The composer writes: 'In honor of the 1,177 crewman killed among the battleship USS Arizona, For Uncommon Valor is inspired by the story of the brave men, women, and children who witnessed, fought, and endured the tragic events of December 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor, and across the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. The story of Pearl Harbor, however, does not end with a sunken battleship, or a defeated nation. A mighty nation, 'the sleeping giant', awoke to face the challenge at hand and claim victory for those who could not claim it for themselves. The uncommon valor displayed by the men and women of the Pacific Fleet brought forth the greatest fighting force ever seen and put on display for all to see, the strength and resilience of the American people.' Accolade, meaning an award, an honour or a laudatory notice. This fanfare for brass band literally builds from the bottom up - a battery of percussion leads to the lower band's statement of the theme before passing through the middle of the band that builds a series of interjections. The theme is then restated in the upper band before the battery of percussion returns to end. The fanfare was written for Regent Brass as the title track for their 1990 recording to celebrate both their 5th anniversary and to celebrate being crowned 3rd Section Champion Band of Great Britain in 1988 - an accolade indeed!?Duration: 1:00
