Dance On (Je me sens bien aupres de toi) - Adams, Murtagh, Murtagh & Stellman - Len Jenkins
"Dance On" is probably best remembered in the UK by two versions. One by the Shadows which went to Number 1 in the UK Singles chart and the other by Kathy Kirby which made number 11 in the 1963 UK charts. The other side of the Channel, in France, Petula Clark recorded the song in French ("Je me sens bien aupres de toi") and Italian ("Sto volentieri con te") which made the Top 5 of the French and Italian charts. She also recorded an English version for album release on the Canadian market. The infectious rhythm will get you tapping your feet or even getting up to dance. It's a real bopping number from the 60's, and well within the capabilities of most bands. Enjoy.

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor is a British composer, who, from a young age, showed talent on the violin and entered the Royal College of Music, studying with Charles Villers Standford. His music become so popular that his Hiawatha trilogy was the second most performed choral piece (joint with Mendelssohn's Elijah, and only beaten by Handel's Messiah) with choral societies up and down the British Isles. In fact, Hiawatha was arranged by Charles Godfrey as a test-piece for the 1902 National Brass Band Championship of Great Britain, held at Crystal Palace.Commissioned by the theatre impresario Herbert Beerbohm, Coleridge-Taylor composed incidental music for His Majesty's Theatre London production of the Shakespeare play, Othello, in the West End, in 1909. In 1912, the play opened to the public, with a suite of five movements put together soon afterwards. The Dance, arranged here by Rob Bushnell, makes a great concert opener.This arrangement is for the British-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. £30.00Reminiscing Dance - Brass Band - LM983
COMPOSER: Chris AllenReminiscing Dance is the most traditional of all the brass band works I have written so far, but it contains beautiful melodies that should appeal to most audiences. The piece is similar in nature to 'The Three Bells',the central movement of Gordon Langford's Three Haworth Impressions, and is inspired by rural imagery and the idea of a widow recalling their precious experiences with their loved one. The general mood of the piece is one of happiness tinged with wistfulness and longing, beginning with a lilting,but not jolly triple time melody in the soprano cornet.This melody gives way to a more jovial tune at bar 56 which can afford to be played with more humour and freedom, but at bar 86 the atmosphere should darken again, with a subdued dynamic and smoother articulation.At bar 114, the upbeat music of the opening returns but bolder than before, to represent a feeling of anger that the opportunity to spend cherished time with a loved one has been stripped away by death. An intense countermelody in the euphoniums and baritones grinds painfully against the main tune in the cornets, before a soft close that suggests ultimately the dominant emotion of the piece is one of happy memories rather than loss.Chris Allen, December 2021

Henk van Belcums used the festive and much loved song 'In Thee is Gladness', in this arrangement. Better known as 'Geest van hierboven' (Hymn 477) from the Songs for the Church (NL). A glorious fanfare opens the piece, which is then followed by a bright dance. The hymn is heard in the chorale section, in a fancy new setting, and the piece closes with a reprise of the opening fanfare.
