£35.00Postcard to Grimethorpe (Brass Band - Score and Parts)
I composed the original version of Postcard to Grimethorpe in 1993 at the request of Elgar Howarth, for a concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, given by the Grimethorpe Colliery Band. This was at a time when after the Grimethorpe Colliery pit closed the future of the band was in severe jeopardy. The concert was given in aid of the band, both through publicity and funding.Then in late 2022 Jack Stamp, the American composer, conductor and educator, and at that time international composer-in-association with Grimethorpe, contacted me to say that he had discovered my short piece in the band library, and asked if I might extend it for a recording he was sponsoring for the band - the repertoire to consist entirely of music specially composed for Grimethorpe.I agreed and decided to extend the piece by using the miner's hymn Gresford, as a symbolic gesture of protest at the many thousands of miners in the UK who were made redundant from their jobs. After an angular (quasi-atonal) first section, the hymn enters, softly at first, but with each phrase it becomes more powerful and insistent, ending with the final phrase triumphantly accompanied by melodic percussion (replacing the drums and cymbals of the earlier phrases, as if the band were then on the march). However, this short work ends softly and gently, as if anger has been replaced by quiet resolution and determination, looking to the future with confidence.- Edward GregsonDuration: 3.00

£37.40Seaside Odyssey (Brass Band) Liz Lane
Seaside Odyssey is a celebration of the British seaside! The music represents a juxtaposition between natural and manmade elements; there are two main musical themes - the reflective sea (a wordless setting of John Masefield's Sea Fever) and a more lively 'seaside' theme, heard separately in different ways and later together. From childhood memories, sand, beach and cliffs to cafes, ice creams, fish and chips, buckets and spades, boating trips, beach huts, bandstands, piers, theatres, gardens, mini golf, arcades and more, Seaside Odyssey is a journey from dawn to dusk with the sea at the heart of the music. This work was commissioned by Grimethorpe Colliery Band for its seaside tour, August 2023, where it performed at Paignton, Lyme Regis, Weymouth, Shanklin and Herne Bay. Includes optional poems and words specially curated from poets associated with the seaside towns, which can be read before a performance. Robert Bernat was commissioned in 1976by Elgar Howarth to write his first brassband composition, Dunlaps Creek, forGrimethorpe Colliery Band. He chose to usean old hymn tune of the same name usuallyassociated with the words We walk by faithand not by sight. Composing Dunlaps Creekinspired Bernat to learn more about brassbands and in 1978 he moved to Sheffieldfor about a year. He was so impressed bywhat he saw in terms of musical virtuosityand accessibility that he made his mind upto establish a brass band movement in theUS and in 1981 the River City Brass Bandgave its debut performance. Bernat servedas the bands conductor, artistic director andpresident until his death in 1994.

£37.50Resurgence - Sam Fisher
Resurgence is a new thrilling work which was composed as the finale for the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band's "Great Fire of London" programme which they performed at 'Brass In Concert' 2016. Written in three sections, the work graphically depicts London in its post-fire state, with damaged bells and the ghostly atmospheric sounds. The opening movement entitled, 'Devastation' leads to the rebuild of London town, with "Oranges and Lemons" being heard in short fanfares, eventually arriving at 'New London' which features the iconic "London's Burning" and familiar Westminster Chimes. This is a great showcase for any band looking to impress on both the concert and contest stage.

This lively and melodic piece was commissioned by Maltby Colliery Band in 2000. It was written as a feature for solo cornet and the cornet section. For its first broadcast performance on Radio Scotland, from Edinburgh in 2009 Mark O'Keefe played the solo part with the band of COOP Glasgow. This piece makes an impressive encore or opening to a band concert and is also available in a version for ten brass. Duration: 3.30
