£16.00Finale from Symphony No.3 (Organ Symphony) (Brass Band) Additional Parts
Saint-Saens' magnificent Finale from Symphony No.3 (widely known as the 'Organ Symphony') has here been arranged for brass band with optional organ by Kevin Norbury. It was recorded by The International Staff Band on its CD Manuscripts, although this version has been revised in places. Saint-Saens decided to add the organ and piano to his 3rd symphony as a pragmatic orchestration innovation. The composition of this symphony was probably started in 1885 and a first draft was completed in Prague in 1886. Saint-Saens later recalled its eventful genesis: 'The Symphony in C was three-quarters sketched out when I found it impossible to write the finale. I did not know how to resolve this situation, until one night I suddenly woke up and, in a sort of hallucination, I heard the whole finale, which I hastily wrote down in outline, knowing that if I went back to sleep without having put anything on paper, I would have forgotten it all the next day.' The symphony was first performed under the composer's direction at Saint James's Hall in London on May 19, 1886. This arrangement by Kevin Norbury can both function as a stand-alone brass band piece, and be performed with an organ by omitting the notes found in square brackets in the parts and score. An interesting and unusual take on a lesser known Christmas piece.'I have played many music selections in my time featuring Christmas music, but the funny thing is they all seem to use the same tunes! Jingle Bells, Rudolph.... but I didn't want to produce another of those!An interesting thought - all Christmas selections seem to be in 4 beats in a bar and Major keys, all bright and festive. Why not try something different?Carol Fantasy uses 3 beats in a bar, and is written in a Minor key!Some of the classics are there, We Three Kings, Coventry Carol, and We Wish you a Merry Christmas, but they are all stitched together using the lesser known Bell Carol. I See the Fatherland | Dario Salvi
Dario Salvi has reconstructed Franz von Suppes operetta 'Die Afrikareise' (A Trip to Africa) in a ground breaking project with Winsconsin University and the Strauss Society, which will see the operetta being performed in English for the first time in 100 years. This march for Brass Band brings together themes from the operetta under the title 'I See the Fatherland'[su_quote cite="Dario Salvi 2015]After almost two years of work on the score of the Operetta, during which I extensively worked on preparing a full orchestral score with all the singing parts in English, it is almost time to stage the work. The music from 'A Trip To Africa' is full of amazing melodies and interesting ideas. This march for Brass Band is a collection of some of the themes from the Operetta: The "Entrance of Titania" Fanfare leads to one of the most recurring themes, where the singer declares their desire to go back to their Fatherland (in this case Naples) after their visit to the very exotic Cairo; the starting point of their adventure into the heart of the Desert. Exotic sounding yet very Viennese rhythms are the main characteristic of this march. £57.50Marcho Brioso - Philip Sparke
Marcho Brioso was commissioned by The Brioso Brass, a British-style brass band from Hokkaido, Japan. They gave the first performance in January 2012.The commission was for a bright and breezy march that the band could use as their theme tune, so Marcho Brioso falls into the composer's series of Broadway-style marches, which includes Slipstream, The Bandwagon and Jubiloso.After a short introduction a solo cornet plays the main theme, accompanied by a euphonium counter-melody. A secondary phrase from the horns and baritones leads to a tuttiversion of the main theme which is followed by the traditional 'bass' strain. A change of key heralds the trio section, which features a cantabile melody on euphonium; this is then taken up by the full band after a short bridge passage and further change of key.This takes us back to the home key which sees a quiet staccato version of the main theme lead to a recapitulation and a short coda which brings the march to a close.
