£34.95Island Whirl (Brass Band - Score and Parts)
Island Whirl was commissioned by Margaret Milligan who wanted a brand new piece of music composed as a present for Ian, her husband for his 70th birthday. Ian Milligan is a keen and dedicated musician and he is the musical director of Callendar Brass, based in Callendar near Stirling in Scotland.Margaret contacted me about the possibility of composing a short lively piece which had a Scottish theme that would be ideal for Callendar Brass Band and any other ensemble to get their teeth into. This piece takes its inspiration from the traditional Scottish folk song 'An Eriskay Love Lilt' which is a particular favourite of both Margaret and Ian.With thunderous Celtic drums the piece opens in a whirlwind of sound with fanfare brass and an off-stage soloist that can perform using either the cornet or trumpet. After the exciting opening, the brass and drums die away to allow the off-stage soloist to air the traditional tune 'An Eriskay Love Lilt'.The beautiful haunting melody, keeping its originality throughout undergoes a series of changes in the accompanying harmonic material before dying away to allow the Celtic drums to return. The percussion whip the band into a frenzy as the piece gets faster and faster. Just prior to the final notes the band diminuendo to allow one last closing statement from the Eriskay Love Lilt lead by the off-stage soloist before the ensemble charge to a dramatic close.When performing this piece I would recommend the off-stage soloist taking a position somewhere in the audience, so they can almost feel part of the performance. In addition, with the two tom-tom parts that represent the Celtic drums, bands should make the most of showcasing them by getting the two drummers out to the front of the band to perform. The ideal stage position would be with the players set up in stereo with one player in front of the soprano cornet and the other in front of the solo trombone.With the various choreographed movements from both the off-stage soloist and the percussionists. This piece is a great addition to any concert repertoire and is an ideal showcase for bands who want to try something a little different.I wish Ian at 70 years young, all the very best with his music making in the many years to come and I hope this piece, composed especially for him and Callender Brass brings them many years of musical enjoyment.Paul Lovatt-Cooper

At The Going Down Of The Sun is a deeply moving musical tribute dedicated to the courage, resilience, and ultimate sacrifice of those who have defended the nation of Australia. Inspired by the heroic legacy of the 2/25th Battalion and their storied defense of the Kokoda Track during World War II, this composition serves as a solemn reminder of the immense gratitude owed to its fallen heroes. This piece is born from a legacy of service. It was composed in honor of Keith Fitzpatrick, who enlisted in the AIF on November 28, 1941. Keith served two tours in New Guinea, spending 359 days on the treacherous Kokoda Track. Keith Fitzpatrick lived to celebrate his 100th birthday in 2023, leaving behind a profound legacy through his wife of 67 years, Valda, and three generations of descendants. At The Going Down Of The Sun captures this spirit of endurance and devotion. £33.59Menuet (Brass Band) Ravel arr. Rob Bushnell
Le Tombeau de Couperin (The Grave of Couperin) was written by Maurice Ravel between 1914 and 1917, originally a suite of piece for solo piano. Based on what was considered a traditional Baroque suite, Ravel wanted to pay homage to Baroque French keyboard music, whilst retaining his 20th-century chromaticism, making the work neoclassicist. Each movement is dedicated to the memory of a friend of the composer who died fighting in World War I. Ravel produced an orchestral version in 1919, omitting two of the original six movements. The Menuet was written in memory of Jean Dreyfus; Ravel had recuperated at his home. This arrangement is for the British-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. Je te veux, or I Want You, is a valse chantee (sung waltz) by the French composer Erik Satie, with lyrics by Henry Pacory. It was written for Paulette Darty, who first sang it in 1903 at La Scala, Paris, with Satie accompanying. There are various versions that Satie produced, the original for piano and voice, a version for brass 'orchestra', for full orchestra (where a trio section was added), and a version for solo piano (but including the new trio section). This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass, and is of the longer version (with the trio section). As a result, it lends itself to being performed in a various of ways, with the ensemble has the option of selecting the part of it compound ternary form to play: (A-B-A)(C-D-C)(A-B-A). 1343: March - Spreading the Word (Ian Clarke)This lively march features the songs Look, ye saints! the sight is glorious (S.A.S.B. 227), When we walk with the Lord (S.A.S.B. 690), I want to tell what God has done (S.A.S.B. 852), and makes reference to the old chorus When I remember that he died for me I'll never go back any more.1344: Prelude on 'Anstasis' (Sam Creamer)The Greek word anstasis translates to resurrection and particularly refers to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The popular worship song O praise the name (Anstasis) forms the basis of this prelude. While the theme of this work is most applicable for Easter use, it could well find its place in programme and worship repertoire all year round.1345: Flugel Solo - The old rugged cross (Eiliv Herikstad)This Flugel Horn Solo (also playable by Cornet) includes chords on the soloist part so that the soloist can have improvisational freedom, or can play the written out solo.1346: March - Showers of blessing (Zachary Docter)This energetic march uses Gary Rose's melody Showers of blessing (STTL Vol.24, Pt.1).

£39.95When Thunder Calls (Brass Band - Score and Parts)
When Thunder Calls was commissioned by Dr Nicholas Childs and the Black Dyke Band for their performance at the Gala Concert of the Swiss Open Championships in September 2011. When composing this piece, I decided to focus on both the music and the stage presentation. The way the piece has been composed and designed makes it a very effective way of starting a concert or a second half of a concert.At the start of the piece, the percussion enter the stage and take their positions in their usual place behind the band. They begin playing the piece without a conductor. They keep repeating the opening section while the Basses, Horns, Baritones and Euphoniums march onto the stage.This group of musicians take their seats with the Horns, Baritones and Euphoniums sitting where they usually sit in the band but the Basses sit where the solo cornets usually sit, forming an inner semi-circle of lower brass. When seated and when the music gets to the end of bar 4 the piece continues onto section A. All performers keep repeating this next 4-bar phrase until the trombones march onto stage and stand at the front of the stage with the Bass Trombone standing in between the other two trombones.All performers then play from figure B to C with the trombones taking the lead at the front. When the performers get to rehearsal figure C they repeat this section (the same as section A) while the trombones move from the front of the stage and take their positions where the Basses would normally sit (between the horns and the percussion) and remain standing. Meanwhile, the flugel enters the stage and stands at the front of the stage (standing where the trombones did). When in position the flugel soloist picks up into rehearsal figure D.When the flugel soloist finishes playing, just before rehearsal figure F they then move to their normal seat in the band. At figure F the cornets march onto the stage from either side, they turn and stand side by side each other facing outward towards the audience forming two 'fanfare' lines either side of the lower brass. The conductor follows the cornets on stage and on cue they lift their instruments at the same time and perform when the piece gets to figure G.There is no more moving around from this point on other than the solo cornet to move forward with the solo euphonium and perform their duet at letter H. Also the horns are required to stand and play at letter I and then sit just before J.When performed with all the choreography, this piece makes for an exciting addition to any concert repertoire both for the performer and the audience.Suitable for 3rd Section Bands and Above

Based on a poem by Gustaf Froding, King Lily of the Valley is a poetic and regal musical tribute to the delicate flower that, in Froding's verse, appears as a young king surrounded by both sorrow and beauty. Originally composed by David Wikander and arranged for male choir (TTBB) by Rasmus Krigstrom, this evocative work has been masterfully reimagined for brass band by Norwegian arranger and composer Espen Wallacher Haukas and created for Bjorsvik Brass's performance at Siddis Brass 2025. The brass band version retains the choral character and emotional depth of the original, weaving lush harmonies and lyrical phrasing into a rich soundscape. A deeply expressive addition to any brass band repertoire - blending Nordic choral tradition with the grandeur and warmth of the brass band sound. £30.12Fanfare from La Peri(Brass Band) Dukas arr. Rob Bushnell
La Peri is a one-act ballet by the French composer Paul Dukas, best known for The Sorcerer's Apprentice (L'apprenti sorcier) as in the 1940 Disney film Fantasia. Dukas was commissioned to write La Peri by the Ballets Russes, producing a Poeme danse en un tableau ('dance poem in one scene') in 1911; this become his last published work. With Natalia Trouhanova due to play the Peri and Vaslav Nijinsky to play Iskender (the name of Alexander the Great in Persian, who is scouting around Iran in search of the Flower of Immortality), the production was ultimately cancelled because Serge Diaghilev feel Trouhanova was not a skilled enough dancer to be partnered to Nijinsky. Trouhanova later hired Ivan Clustine to choreograph the music, with the ballet premiering at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on 22 April 1912.The brilliant fanfare that precedes the ballet is often performed separately and is the arrangement available here. Arranged for British-style brass band, it has optional percussion parts as well as alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass.
