When Worlds Collide seeks to recreate the atmosphere and sentiment of the American cult Sci-Fi movies of the 1950's such as Robert Wise's 1951 film 'The day the Earth Stood Still' and 'Invasion of the Body Snatches' directed by Don Siegel in 1956, as well as Rudolph Mate's 1951 film 'When Worlds Collide'. It is programmatic with subtitled sub-sections as follows: Crop Circles; Lights in the Sky; Strange Happenings; Sightings; "We Come in Peace"; Alien Abduction; Analysis of the Earthlings; Teleportation; New Understandings; Visions of Far Off Worlds; Colonisation. Adagio and Rondo - and Robert Childs

One of Mozart's best-loved and most performed pieces is the lively 'Rondo Alla Turca' from the Piano Sonata in A minor, K331, written in Paris in 1778. In this arrangement the Rondo is preceded by a little-known adagio, K580a, which existed previously as a fragment scored for solo clarinet and three basset horns. This completed version of the adagio is in sonata form, its main theme closely resembling Mozart's famous motet Ave verum corpus.

Variations - Andrew Lloyd Webber arr. Peter Graham

There are numerous sets of variations based on Paganinni's famous violin piece, but surely this is the only one written as the result of a wager on a football match! The composer wrote these variations for his cello-playing brother Julian in payment of a bet on a Leyton Orient match and they later formed part of the show Song and Dance.
