    Galloping Home (The theme from TV's Black Beauty) - Dennis King - Len Jenkins

    "The Adventures of Black Beauty" was a British children's television drama series produced by London Weekend Television and shown by ITV in the United Kingdom between 1972 and 1974. The theme tune, "Galloping Home", written by Denis King and performed by the London String Chorale, was released as a single and peaked at number 31 in the UK charts in the week of 2 February 1974. It was later used at the climax of the first series of Absolutely Fabulous, with Edina Monsoon dreaming of running through a field as Black Beauty does in the series' title sequence. The piece has been arranged for both Full Brass Band and Brass Ensemble, in this case a Quintet with optional percussion. Both arrangements are well within the capabilities of most bands.

    Sandstone Centennial was commissioned by the Frodsham Silver Band from north-west England, to celebrate their centenary. The title refers to the fact that Frodsham is situated at one end of The Sandstone Trail, a hiking route which was opened in 1974 and traces a ridge of sandstone. The march is in traditional English 'contest march' style. 03:15

    This march was written at the request of the then Chief of the Staff, Commissioner Arnold Brown for the welcome meeting of the 1974 High Council, a gathering of The Salvation Army's top leaders from around the world who meet to elect a new General. The scintillating music is filled with many wonderful and surprising shifts of key, rhythm and instrumental colour. Evangeline Booth's song 'The world for God' provides the international reference while at the trio's peak, the composer joins three tunes in impressive counterpoint; 'We're the Army' (cornets), 'A Robe of White' (horns and baritones) and 'Bound for Canaan's Shore' (trombones). The march ends with a dazzling shift into triple time and an impressive molto allargando codetta.

Thetitle refers to a cross which was erected to the memory of Sir Ernest Shackleton, who led a number of explorationsto the Antarctic. Shackleton died in 1922 whilst on a Polar expedition, and the cross can be found on a promontoryat the entrance to the bay at Grytviken Whaling Station in South Georgia. The painting is owned by HRH The Dukeof Edinburgh, and was part of an exhibition at Buckingham Palace from October 2011 to April 2012.

In this medley, made by his youngest son, Thijs van Otterloo, the themes of Help, de dokter verzuipt! (Help, the Doctor Is Drowning!, 1974) and Soldaat van Oranje (Soldier of Orange, 1977) have been used, as well as Esther (from Soldier of Orange). There's also many arrangements of the song made, some of them featuring soloist(s).This arrangement for Brass Band by Svein H. Giske was written to Askoy Brass Band for their participation in the entertainment-competition Siddis Brass in 2016.It's very virtuosic and challenge almost all sections of the band.
