A Slaidburn Festival Overture - Stoll, B
In 1997, all of the students who were undertakingthe BA Band Studies Course atAccrington & Rossendale College, werecommissed by the Slaidburn Band to composea suitable piece of music to mark itscentenary in 1998.As a result, Beverley Ann Stoll wrote theoverture as a tribute to both WilliamRimmer and Joseph Hodgson. The overturebriefly features the musical themes ofthe March "Slaidburn" and the unaffectedpoignant harmonies of the hymn tune"Burn Fell".Youth Band

Tchaikovsky's symphonic poem Francesca da Rimini: Symphonic Fantasy afterDante, Op. 32, was composed in less than three weeks during his visit to Bayreuthin the autumn of 1876.This fantasia presents a symphonic interpretation of the tragic tale of Francescada Rimini, a beauty who was immortalised in Dante's Divine Comedy. Francescada Rimini, a noblewoman, fell in love with her husband's brother. After the loverswere discovered and killed in revenge by the husband, they were condemned toHell for their adulterous passions. Iain McKnight's arrangement of the exciting Finale was first performed by theLeyland Band at the 2011 Brass in Concert and was used to conclude the band'swinning performance.

This Tenor Horn Solo was composed a number of years ago and was inspired by the phrase "Thou Comfortedst Me" from Isaiah 12. The piece is written in concert Bb with a slow introduction. The standard is high for the soloist, who needs to be able to achieve a comfortable written top D to effectively perform it. It lasts for approximately three and a half minutes and would make a superb solo for any standard concert.

Peterloo - Malcolm Arnold
Peterloo is the derisive name given to an incident that happened on16th August 1819 in St Peter's Fields, Manchester, when an orderly crowd of some 80,000 people met to hear a speech on political reform. On the orders of the magistrates they were interrupted by the Yeomanry, who attempted to seize the banners they carried, and to arrest their speaker, Henry Hunt. Cavalry was sent in, and eleven people were killed and four hundred injured in the ensuing panic. This overture attempts to portray these happenings.Brass Band Grade 5: 1st Section.Duration 10 minutes.

For anyone who is familiar with this bizarre and wonderful city, this piece needs no explanation. New York is the third movement of East Coast Pictures, originally written for wind band, commissioned in 1985 by the British Youth Wind Orchestra with funds from National Westminster Bank plc. Bertie's Gonna Jumpin' is dedicated to Bertie, the composer's family cat. Bertie is a cheeky black cat, full of character, who loves to disturb the neighbours! The piece is an up tempo big band tune, featuring the vibraphone. Bertie's Gonna Jumpin' was a winning entry in the 2019 Foden's Band/Love Music Trust Composers Competition and was given its premiere by the Macclesfield Youth Brass Band
