    Feel

Programme notes from the arranger, Tim Paton:At the end of 2002, Robbie Williams presented us with the song “Feel”. My wife, Julie, loves Robbie Williams, she also loves playing Tenor Horn with Flixton Band, so I took this sensitive and memorable music by Guy Chambers, and arranged it as a horn duet with brass band accompaniment for her birthday in 2003. By popular demand, I produced a second version for brass band without soloists. Also available as full band version.

Folk Dance and Carol - Tim Paton

This music aims to capture the feeling of a Village celebration. It begins with a lively Jig, where the music joyfully dances around the band. It then settles down to two verses of that beautiful melody by Gustav Holst, “In the Bleak Mid-Winter”. It then quickly ‘gets on it’s feet’ again, and finishes off the celebration with the Dance and the Carol mingling together.

    Four Moods - Tim Paton

Whilst at the RNCM, I wrote a piece for the college trombone quartet, which was featured in a radio broadcast. I later created a full brass band version. “NOBILITY” is a grand opening, shortly followed by “SENTIMENT”, which is smooth and sweet. “HUMOUR” takes the melody we have just heard in Sentiment, and makes fun of it. “HOT ‘N COOL” finishes it off in a jazz big band style. Good key players make this playable by most bands. “Four Moods comprises distinct stylistic differences, beginning with Nobility and Sentiment, then continuing with Humour, which parodies the theme of the previous movement in an amusing manner (complete with ‘rude’ trombone glissandi) and concluding with Hot’n’Cool, mixing jazz/rock with swing styles”. Frost - Lucy Pankhurst

A spotlight composition from Lucy Pankhurst for baritone soloist with brass accompaniment.Opening with a rich combination of melody and harmony, the resulting sound draws in the audience with its beauty. The sounds grow and the accompaniment starts to introduce moments of extra rhythmic interest. This then progresses into a more playful section where the melody line is developed further. Eventually the solo returns to a more reflective section and once again the further development of the rich warm harmonies. This is a lovely addition to the baritone repertoire and brings with it a new level of appreciation for the instrument.
