Tales from the Village - Lucy Pankhurst - Robert Childs
Tales From The Village is a collection of seven short movements for Tenor Horn and Piano. As the title suggests, each movement is intended to be a separate "story" as told by a different villager. For this reason, each movement...

Three Pieces - Simon Parkin - Robert Childs
These three pieces were originally composed for 'cello and piano, based on improvisations on a DX7 (which will indicate how long ago that was!). I recently reconceived them for euphonium, impressed by the ability the instrument has to be both...

Euphonium Music - Brian Bowen
Written in 1978, the work is constructed in three movements and is virtually a concerto for euphonium and band. The first movement begins with an unaccompanied motto theme, which uses all twelve notes of the scale but with a tonal feel. The slow second movement is based on an original song melody by the composer - 'The Eyes of God' - and affords lyrical and richly expressive playing that is typically euphonium. Movement three follows without a break - a capricious movement which ends triumphantly. Now available in versions for piano, brass band, wind band, and orchestra, Euphonium Music can be seen as a major contribution to the literature for the instrument. Duration: 15 minutes An orchestral version is available on hire.

Highgarth Invention - Rebecca Kirk-Smith
An interesting work for adventurous soloists who fancy something a bit different. The work begins with an unacompanied rubato section before a vivace dialogue breaks out between euphonium and piano. The music is rhythmic and energetic before a grandioso returns us to the calmness of the opening section.

Romance Op. 62 - Edward Elgar arr. Eric Wilson
Originally for bassoon, Eric Wilson has expertly transcribed this beautiful piece for euphonium and piano. The yearning melancholy of the music - a style that is harder to find than one may suppose - is ideally suited to the lugubrious tone of the instrument. Ideal recital material for discerning soloists.

Valse Sentimentale - Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky arr. Eric Wilson
Taken from the composer's Six Pieces for Piano Opus 51, this charming melody is well suited to the mellifluous charms of the euphonium. This arrangement lies perfectly within the instrument's range and provides an ideal encore, allowing the soloist to make the most of its lyrical style.

Adagio And Rondo - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart arr. Philip Wilby and Robert Childs
One of Mozart's best-loved and most performed pieces is the lively 'Rondo Alla Turca' from the Piano Sonata in A minor, K331, written in Paris in 1778. In this arrangement the Rondo is preceded by a little-known adagio, K580a, which existed previously as a fragment scored for solo clarinet and three basset horns. This completed version of the adagio is in sonata form, its main theme closely resembling Mozart's famous motet Ave verum corpus.

Zigeunerweisen - Pablo de Sarasate arr. Philip Wilby and Robert Childs
Published as part of the popular Virtuosi Collection - a wide-ranging series of carefully edited arrangements for euphonium and piano, in which the solo parts have been meticulously prepared for performance on a brass instrument - this is perhaps Sarasate's most celebrated work. Sarasate composed romances, fantasies, and made transcriptions of Spanish airs calculated to show off his great virtuosity. Zigeunerweisen, which translates as Gypsy Airs, is one of these show-cases. This arrangement encompasses the extremes of the gypsy temperament.
