Blaenwern (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Rowlands, William - Wilkinson, Keith M.

This arrangement is dedicated to the memory of a much-loved friend and wonderful cornet player, Stephen Howard. Stephen played with the Clacton-on-Sea Band, conducted by his father Robert, and was a frequent guest with the G.U.S. Band directed by Dr. Keith M Wilkinson. Indeed, only a few weeks before his untimely death in 1984, Stephen had played principal cornet with the G.U.S. Band on a tour of Switzerland, performing outstandingly at each concert. The arrangement was first performed at Stephen's Memorial Service in October, 1984."Changed from glory into glory,Till in Heaven we take our place,Till we cast our crowns before Thee,Lost in wonder, love and praise." Charles Wesley

SEA PICTURES (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

An atmospheric and descriptive work, Sea Pictures is in three sections. The quiet but very difficult opening describes the sea at dawn when all is still save for the cries of the early-morning gulls and deep movements of the sea itself. The sun rises and the next section pictures it glistening and sparkling on the waves. A school of playful dolphins passes. As they swim into the distance we are alone again with the sun and the waves. But there are distant rumblings; from far away a storm approaches. Cool breezes disturb the surface of the sea as it clouds over. And then the storm is upon us, turning the sea into the most awful force in all nature. Then, as suddenly as it had begun, it abates, leaving the sea once again serene in sunlight. All is calm but, as the work fades to a close, distant claps of thunder remind us that we are always at the mercy of the power and ficklesness of nature. Championship section. Duration 20:13

Windows of the World (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Graham, Peter

Commissioned by YBS Band, this is a kaleidoscopic six movement sequel to Cry of the Celts. The work provides solo opportunities for several principal players. Peter Graham takes us first to Latin America, then to Japan and onwards to Saharan Africa. We get a gentle reprieve via a nostalgic hint of the British Isles before we land in the melting pot of all styles, the USA. In this final section the driving swing section is abruptly stopped and a drum cadenza leads us back into the opening Latin music. The movements are: Amazonia; Rainforest; The Rising Sun; Drums of Thunder; Celtic Dream; Earth Walk. Any of the movements can be programmed individually. Some movements are recorded on QPRL215D Master Brass (Volume Thirteen). All movements are recorded on QPRL123D Windows of the World. Total Duration: 20:30.

Machine (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Dobson, Simon

Machine, was commissioned by the Salvation Army Trading Company for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. The work speaks of the perils of the fast fashion industry, the part it plays in our current understanding of late-stage capitalism and it's complicity in the destruction wrought on our one home planet. It also seeks to portray the incredible efforts of the Salvation Army in their quest to slow the fast fashion industry and recycle clothing in the most innovative and progressive ways. The work is through composed and comprises five movements.Movement 1: The great Machine. The band is placed into 8 groups of three (expect tubas, in their normal position as a 4), who stand in specific places on the stage. This will create machine like antiphonal movement in the written music. The great Machine in question is the fast fashion industry, in all its chaos, seeming grandeur and relentless momentum.Movement 2: Mode phmre is fast, angular and quirky, a nod to the perilous speed and waste of the fast fashion industry (the movement title is the French for fast fashion).Movement 3: A planet to treasure (for DA) is a love letter to our home planet and its finite resources and as well as the beauty of the natural world, which unfortunately, we are destroying (hence the dedication to David Attenborough on his 100th year).Movement 4: The wheels keep turning, returns to the fast, angular, almost unstoppable grasp of capitalism and the damaging structures it promotes.Movement 5: Recycle, re-use, mirrors the opening (though without stage directions) in reference to the cyclic nature of fast fashion and the wonderful work that The Salvation Army do in trying to halt this system.

Two Worlds (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Harper, Philip

A powerful musical journey through time, Two Worlds explores the enduring force of storytelling. In an imaginary encounter, the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun and the American President Lincoln - in reality, separated by 5,000 years - meet to discuss the myths, truths and beliefs that shaped their respective civilizations. From the divine sun gods of Ancient Egypt to America's dream of equality, this evocative work blends fantasy and history with bold, cinematic music. At once dramatic and thought-provoking, Two Worlds reminds us that the stories we believe in can unite or divide, destroy or inspire.Commissioned for the centenary of the Swiss Brassband Burgermusik Luzern, in 2022.Duration: 18.30

Wake-Up Call (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

This exciting concert opener describes a day in a life.Propelled out of bed at 6 am. by the raucous wake-up call, we are immediately caught up in the manic impetus of the day. The music progresses through several changes of mood linked by the 7/8 theme but the high energy never drops. There are moments of hustle and bustle, high points and darker moods but, above all, there is an exuberant zest for life. There are rhythmic challenges in this vivacious concert opener and everyone gets something to play, but the technical challenges are not extreme.Duration: 4.45
