£32.97The Hewer's Prayer (Brass Band) Steve Gibson
This music was inspired by stories of those working in the dark and dangerous conditions of the coal mines, and particularly those hewers right at the coal face. Based around an original theme, the music captures a hymn-like setting of a miner's prayer for safety. Depictions of industry and difficult times follow, but resolve into a triumphant conclusion where dark imagery give way to light. The music is the composer's proud tribute to the industrial heritage of his forebears. A transcription for brass band of Mack Wilberg's popular setting of the much loved carol In the Bleak Midwinter, as sung by The King's Singers and The Choir of King's College, Cambridge at Carols from Kings in 2020. This is a reflective and beautiful arrangement of the classic Gustav Holst Christmas carol and remains faithful to the Wilberg choral setting. The arrangement underpins the well-loved melody with luscious, romantic harmonies, including moments of exquisite chromaticism. The Alchymist's Journal - Kenneth Hesketh
The Alchymist's Journal (Variants for Brass Band) was commissioned by Faber Music Band Consultant Paul Hindmarsh in 2001, with the support of the Brass Band Heritage Trust, as a substantial concert/contest challenge that would be within the compass of the country's most able youth and first section bands. It received its first performance in January 2002, by Black Dyke Band under Nicholas Childs, as part of the Royal Northern College of Music Festival of Brass.Since its original publication, composer Kenneth Hesketh has made a number of revisions to the work. Most of these were included in the recording made by Foden's Band (Bramwell Tovey) for NMC Recordings (NMC D142). This definitive new edition, including all the composer's revisions, has been specially prepared for the 2015 National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain and is the text that all bands performing will be required to use.Brass Band Grade 5: 1st SectionDuration: 12 minutes.

2nd Epitaph - Across the Water - Peter Meechan
This piece, as the title suggests, is the second Epitaph I have written, the first being Epitaph (for Hillsborough). a2nd Epitaph - Across the Watera was written for the Fountain City Brass Band, who are from the USA, to perform on D-Day landing beaches in Normandy, France.The title has a double reference point - the water between the UK and France, across which many troops (from the UK and the USA amongst others) travelled in the Normandy invasions, and also the water between the UK (the home of the composer) and the USA (the home of the band).

Tom Davoren composed South Loop in 2015 following an annual visit to the city of Chicago, in the Midwest region of the United States of America. It takes its name from a section of the "L", the famous elevated railway which is the lifeblood of thecity and its suburbs. The piece tries to capture some of the bustling energy of this Chicago landmark and the 750,000 commuters who use it each day.

In upstate New York lie the Catskill Mountains - an extraordinary combination of tranquillity and power, peace and majesty. Once seen they call you back again and again. This brass band transcription has been made by PhillipLittlemore and explores the sonorous and warm sounds of the brass band. The Catskills is the second movement of East Coast Pictures, originally written for wind band, and was commissioned in 1985 by the British Youth WindOrchestra with funds from National Westminster Bank plc. These three short 'pictures' were inspired by several visits by the composer to a small part of the USA's East Coast, an area that provides greatextremesin the geography and the people.
