The opening radiates strength and ambition, but one is also made to wonder which direction will be chosen, which choices will have to be made.After the introduction the first steps on the path of life are taken, still somewhat unsteadily (the 3/4th time used illustrates this uncertainty). However, the child has now set off and will meet the future with an open mind, unafraid, even though experience will teach it how easily it can be hurt.Fortunately, it is sometimes allowed to be vulnerable and it discovers there will always be someone to offer shelter,support and love. (Adagio) The last part breathes a far greater independence. Youth is able to face the future, it can even take on the whole world!

Geometric figures, with their corresponding symbolism and numbers, appeal to the imagination. In La Geometria, the square, the circle, and the triangle are musically explored. On the one hand, the atmosphere and character of each figure formed a source of inspiration; in addition, the matching number in each case influenced the melody, harmony, and time signature. This piece explores the life span of a tornado and which instrument is better suited for that than just the tuba? The piece has three movements: I - Impatient Storm Cell II - Cumulus Clouds III - Multiple Vortex Tornado This piece presents challenges in dynamics and articulation, as well as in the interplay with the soloist. The piece is based on a scale of seven pitches (as 'Tornado' has seven letters) and is notated as a concert Eb major scale with three accidentals. Only these seven notes are played throughout the piece. Playing time appx. 10 minutes.

"Amalies Christmas" is a Norwegian TV series for children, produced by NRK in 1995, and broadcasted again in 19976, and in 2000.The program consisted of 24 episodes, and follows Amalie Wang (Anne Marie Ottesen) making preperations forChristmas in an old house where there lived goblins. The program was the first of many to follow, based on the author Gudny I. Hagens characters. The music is composed by Philip A. Kruse, and all episodes ended with the goblin family (HaraldHeide-Steen jr., Brit Elisabeth Haagensli og Pia Borgli) singing "Lullaby for small goblins".This arrangement for young concert band may be performed with different instrumental soloist or vocalist.Chords are included for piano/guitar. It isimportant to focus on the dynamics and the tempo. The soloist must be heard clearly and adding a choir in the refrains makes it even nicer. It is a melodic song that suits being performed in churches and rooms with ambience. The song is often usedaround Christmas time, but it is written as a small lullaby that can be played anytime.

Studio-Pop - Kees Vlak
Studio-Pop consists of five movements. The first movement, entitled Marching on a String, is an energetic rock march in a modern rhythm. Next, the charming Dreaming of Summer has been composed in three-four time - which is quite unusual in modern pop music. The inspiration for the third movement, Chicken-Charley was a youngman selling chicken legs from a stall. His supple, dancing movements can be recognised in the music. The fourth movement, Candlelight is a modern, attractive ballad. Finally, Discoteca takes us along on a night visit to a Spanish discotheque. The typically Spanish chords and the stirring, high-spirited rhythm provide an exuberant closing to Studio-Pop.

It was written around 1880, about the time hewas appointed Director of the U.S. Marine Band, a position he held until he formed his own civilian band in 1892. Sousa wrote over 130 marches, many of which have been transcribed for brass band.

Over a period of four decades Jimmy Webb (b. 1946) has written hits for a number of singers including Glen Campbell, Art Garfunkel, Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Linda Ronstadt. His songs are often epic in character and include By the Time I Get to Phoenix; Up, Up and Away; Didn't We; Wichita Lineman and Galveston. MacArthur Park (1968) was unlike anything that had gone before it. Running at over 7 minutes, it is 2 or 3 times the length of most pop songs and has an extended orchestral interlude. Richard Harris' seminal recording topped the music charts in Europe, while peaking at number two on the U.S. charts. Philip Sparke has made this excellentarrangement for brass band, which is sure to become a regular feature on your concert programme.
