A brief history: Pentecost Monday was a special day for schools in Yorkshire (England). There were a variety of activities. The pupils of Sabine Baring-Gould would meet with the children of a nearby village. It seemed like a good idea that during the walk would be sung. But she could not find a suitable song and decided to write one by herself. "Onward Christian Soldiers" was the result. It soon became very popular, though she herself was not entirely satisfied with the rhyme scheme. The melody used (St. Gertrude) was by the famous English composer Sir Arthur S. Sullivan. Back to now: Gawan Roberts, has given the hymn a proper update. He gave the still popularsong a solid rock beat and added daring harmonies. So it's popular, for current generations, again for years. The Title Go Far is a word play referring to what the players are going to (GO FAR!) and the musical inspiration from the TV-series Fargo (Mr. Wrench & Mr. Numbers). The piece is very groovy and especially the drum kit needs to lead the band and preferably sound like good, old John Bonham (drummer in the band Led Zeppelin). The melody is inspired by cool Native Americans and the band really needs to bring their primal roar! The piece was written for Eikanger-Bjorsvik Musikklag and their annual summer band camp Feriespel in 2017

Elegy I - Jacob de Haan
Elegy I 'Jealousy' has been named after John Donne's poem of the same name. This English poet (1572-1631) wrote an entire series of elegies, each with its own theme. Jealousy can trigger various emotions, ranging from disappointment, grief, or regret, to madness and anger. All these emotions have been incorporated into this composition. Jacob de Haan was inspired by three different works of art: a poem (the aforementioned poem by John Donne), a painting by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (Jealousy in the Garden) and an old French chanson about jealousy (Je ne l'ose dire) by the sixteenth-century French composer Pierre Certon. The music refers repeatedly to thischanson - sometimes through key notes from the melody that serve as the starting point for new, isolated themes and sometimes through quotations of the original version

A suite in three movements by Ray Steadman-Allen, based on the Norwegian folk song "P? Kl?rfjell der kvelver seg borgi sa rein".The work opens with the melody in the flugel horn, and the theme is then developed and varied with many nuances throughout the work.The 2nd and 3rd movements are played continuously.The piece was commissioned by Manger Musiklag in 1988 and bears all the marks of the composer's masterly instrumentation. Een suite in drie delen door Ray Steadman-Allen, gebaseerd op de Noorse folk song ""P? Kl?rfjell der kvelver seg borgi sa rein"". Het werk opent met de melodie in de bugel, en het thema wordt vervolgens ontwikkeld en gevarieerd met veelnuances door het hele werk. Het tweede en derde deel worden zonder onderbreking gespeeld. Het stuk werd geschreven in opdracht van Manger Musiklag in 1988 en draagt alle kenmerken van de componist zijn meesterlijke instrumentatie.

£149.99A Tribute to Henk Badings - Rob Goorhuis
The motivation for composing this test piece for the Concert Division Brassband of the 2001 WMC was Rob Goorhuis's deep respect for one of the greatest Dutch composers of the 20-th century who also enlarged the wind band repertoire in a most valuable way. Goorhuis wanted to light up the "soft and kind" side of the brassband and wrote about this composition : "The basis is a theme of twelve tones wich Badings once played at an International Organ Improvisation Contest in Haarlem.My organ teacher participated in that contest and so the theme remained somehow in the back of my mind." The composer worked out a series of variations and clustered them into bundles ofthree and so the melody kept its diversity while remaining easy to recognise.

In Dulci Jubilo - Idar Torskangerpoll
This Christmas psalm is famous all over the world and especially in Europe. It is likely that the melody is more than 600 years old.Many famous composers have written their own harmonics and versions of the psalm. This arrangement isbased on two different harmonics; The first and third verse is based on the harmonics by Michael Praetorius while the second verse is based on the harmonics of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Fansa da Matasa - Reid Gilje
"Fansa da Matasa" was written for Norwegian Brass Band Felleskorpset Askoy, today named Ravnanger Brass.The piece is divided into six main parts where the last one includes the hymn "Colne";Part 1 starts slowly, but rhythmically where the intensity grows towards a virtuosic Part 2.Part 2 feature a demaning solo for xylophone (bars 55 to 63). A simplified version of this solo is included in the part.Part 3 starts with some declamatory cadences and continue with several solos before it closed with a larger tutti-part.Part 4 has to be played well firmly and rhythmically. The melody is more of a cantabile style.Part 5 is a beautiful and quiet one with a touch of melancholy. (Small notes in Baritone to played if necessary).Part 6 has to be played with a rhythmic drive and intensity. The hymn "Colne" starts at bar 248 and should be played with a sostenuto-style.
