Ray Steadman-Allen was for many years the driving force in Salvation Army music. His publication list of both brass and vocal works can be measured literally by the hundred. 'The Lord is King' is arguably his crowning achievement of over twenty major works for brass band. Although described as a suite, the work is more symphonic in conception and scale as well as being formidable to perform. The work is based on the Welsh hymn tune 'Llangollen' to which the hymn 'The Lord is King, I own His power' are associated. The three movements derive inspiration from the lines 'My joy, my toil, my craftman's skill, all have their place, and serve His will' found in verse five of the hymn.

The Asteroid Belt
The Asteroid Belt was commissioned by the Desford Colliery Band to use in the 2018 Butlins Mineworkers National Open Brass Band Festival entertainment programme, entitled 'to Boldly Go'. The piece is a short, cinematic 'tour de force' that depicts a journey through an asteroid belt, twisting and turning between the asteroids, alarms blazing and the imminent threat of a collision. DURATION: 3'00". DIFFICULTY: 2nd+. Composed for Strata Brass in 2020 as part of their COVID-19 induced, virtually recorded 'A Christmas Carol' (a new suite for brass bandlasting around 30 minutes in total), 'The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come' is a jagged and virtuosic solo for Euphonium portraying what Ebenezer Scrooge sees when he is shown how his Christmases in the future will occur by the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come. Having already been shown how is mean and uncaring ways have impacted his life this far by the previous two visions, this 3rd and final vision is enough to force Scrooge to become a changed man and embrace the Christmas spirit with all his heart. Throughout this solo, you may hear small references to Camille Saint-Saens' 'Danse Macabre'. .

£151.00Rainforest Concerto - Saskia Apon
Rainforest Concerto has been commissioned by the Brass Band Rijnmond. This double concerto for two trombones and wind band consists of three parts with the cadenza in the slow niddle movement. Saskia Apon was inspired by the threat of the destruction of the rainforest. In the first part, Creation, we hear an accelerated reproduction of the birth of this impressive natural phenomenon. We hear the first birds, we see the growth of the mangrove trees and we witness the struggle for light and the force necessary to keep the realized equilibrium in a perpetual balance.The second part, Ode, is a tribute to the wonder and splendour of the rainforest. By means of subtle and extremely delicate sonorities we hear how nature adds an inestimable value to the rainforest. However it is also extremely fragile and this engenders a certain melancholy due to the awareness of man's impotence to respect this beautiful nature.In the last part, Contra Demolition, we hear the threatening decline, but also the revolt against this possible ruin. It is a heartfelt cry to leave nuture in peace and to work hard for the preservation of the beauty and the value of the rainforest.
