VIEW SCORE PDF Gobsmacked was commissioned by Ravnanger Brass Band (Norway). The composer Robbert Vos writes: 'Gobsmacked is composed as an opening or encore piece which, as the title already reveals, is meant to surprise or overwhelm the audience! After a brief opening fanfare, the main theme is introduced by the solo cornet and euphonium. An accelerando leads to a quick movement, where this main theme is transformed into a con brio. In this section there's a lot of energy to be unleashed and every band member plays a roll in creating that. Throughout the piece there are many surprises, for example some unexpected time changes, percussion effects to wake you and some trombone glissandi to make you smile. After a short and atmospheric reminiscence by the flugel to the solos from the beginning of the piece, there comes a brief percussion interruption which leads to a reprise of the con brio, but this time in slightly different form. This all comes together in the finale where a big accelerando will lead to an exciting close.' This attractive Bossa Nova-style arrangement for vocal or flugel/cornet soloist with brass band has been made by Australian composer Sam Creamer. The key is suitable for male or female vocalists, or in the absence of a vocal soloist a part has been supplied for flugel horn or cornet soloist. A piano accompaniment that matches this band arrangement is also available here and may be used as an alternate accompaniment in the absence of a full band, or can be used simultaneously by a rhythm section alongside the brass band. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas has been a Christmas favourite to many since its first release, extensively featuring in Christmas movies, broadcasts and programming. This piece was written as a full length virtuosic solo based on an earlier work called Humble Hero, which is also available from BrookWright Music. It is an extension of that work and still dedicated to Ken Bradley, designed to provide a reflection of his technical skills and a platform to emulate musicianship for which he was renowned. Ken Bradley (1962 - 2022) was one of Australia's best-known, well-loved, and talented brass musicians. The solo is also available from this website with piano accompaniment. Love Eternal was written by Gavin Lamplough for Neil Blessett, who at the time of writing was the Principal Horn player of both Birmingham (UK) Citadel Band and the International Staff Band of The Salvation Army. After popular demand, it was set as a cornet or flugel horn solo, both with piano accompaniment and this version with brass band. The arranger uses Jarod Cooper's popular contemporary worship song King of Kings, Majesty as the basis for the work and the piece seeks to provide a vehicle for the rich timbres of the tenor horn to be enjoyed by the listener. The music reflects the Christian musician's desire to offer their talents to God to be used by Him, and the lyrics of the song are ones of contrast as the musical journey of this piece seeks to emulate the juxtaposition through contrasting moods. This upbeat, foot-tapping march by Welsh composer Jonathan Mead features the two well known Welsh tunes of Aberystwyth and God Bless The Prince of Wales. Aberystwyth is set as a big bold bass solo and careful attention will need to be paid to make sure that it sounds clean and together. God Bless The Prince of Wales first appears as a traditional hymn tune, before returning in a more vibrant, lively style, with florid scalic passages for the solo cornets and euphoniums. The march was written with St David's Day in mind, although will be an appropriate addition to concert programme throughout the year as either an opener or finisher. This rousing march by Dave Collins is a dedication to the remarkable group of volunteers - the unsung heroes - who, each year, organise and run the iconic Whit Friday brass band contests. They ensure that the heritage and tradition of this uniquely special event is not lost, preserving its ongoing and continued success. Its importance in the annual calendar to the players, supporters and spectators is vital to the Tameside and Saddleworth community. However, this mighty contest simply could not take place without the willing volunteers who dedicate their services year after year to keep this unique banding tradition going.Traditionally, on Whit Friday Morning, Hail! Smiling Morn (Roud #1346), also known as Praise Ye the Lord, is heard across the Saddleworth villages. This is where I have taken my inspiration, and the entire march is built upon quotes and references of this joyous work.The Stewards has many traditional elements drawing on the vast repertory of well-known marches, as well as some untraditional techniques and harmonies. VIEW SCORE PDF Nocturne for Brass Band & Percussion: The Lady with the Lamp was composed for the BrookWright International Brass Band Composer Competition 2020, the work later going on to be a finalist in the competition. The music celebrates the life and achievements of Florence Nightingale on the 200th anniversary of her birth. The work is structured in ternary form and is designed to be an engaging concert piece, accessible to both lower and upper section bands. Minimal percussion has been used and ossia passages have been added to accommodate all levels. The music imagines Miss Nightingale walking the wards at night with the contrasting sections representing her devotion to the care of others, the struggles and sacrifice of her service, and the lasting effect of her renowned achievements that are still felt to this day.
