This has become a Christmas song that has its roots in a love duet between the young Fleksnes and classmate Victoria. The class will be competing with a duet in a song competition. The text gives hope of love and links it to Christmas traditions. "A Dream of Christmas, About Love" is the first line of the text. "The Young Fleksnes" runned as advent calender on TV Norge in 2010. This arrangement feature an flugelhorn soloist and a euphonium soloist. Please be aware of the dynamics between soloists and accompaniment. Adjust the dynamics according to the musicians in the ensemble.

Irish Mood was written in a classic 'theme and variations' construction, opening with an Irish-inspired melodic theme, which is then followed by four variations of divergent character. After the introduction of the theme by the soloist, the cornets and trombones play the main melody in Variation 1, while the soloist provides a flowing counter melody. Next comes the highly extrovert and lively Variation 2, contrasted by an introverted Variation 3 in a minor key. A masterful tutti (Variation 4) then leads the piece toward a brilliant ending.

"By the Fjord" is written by the Norwegian composer Kjetil Bjornstad and is the most famous song from the musical work "Leve Patagonia" which was published in 1978. The work is written as a modern suite about the Oslo Bohemians Hans Jaeger and OdaLasson sitting in a pram on the fjord a summer night. Odas sister sees the couple on the sea from her window and tells us the story.Kjetil Bjornstad wrote "By the Fjord" in his house outside Tvedestrand early spring 1978. He was initially notfully satisfied and considered disposing it. The beautiful music has luckily made the song a classic in Norwegian music.To the conductorThis arrangement can be used with both vocal andinstrumental soloist. Its always a challenge toarrange songs with many verses that tells a story if it is to be played by an instrumental soloist instead of a singer. Aria was commissioned by and written for the remarkable Tenor Horn player, Sheona White. The work opens with an accompanied recitative, which leads to a change of key where the main melody is presented. This, in turn, serves as an introduction to another melodic idea, marked calmato. The band takes up this theme and then takes centre stage with a passionate repeat of the main theme, which is completed by the soloist. A Cornet then plays the calmato theme against which the soloist plays a counter melody. This leads to a return of the opening recitative which brings the work to a peaceful close. A fantastic new addition to the solo repertoire for this much neglectedsolo instrument.

£95.00Tenor Horn Concerto 'Three Gods' (Tenor Horn Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Gregson, Edward
Edward Gregson's Tenor Horn Concerto (Three Gods) was commissioned by the Belgian tenor horn soloist Tim de Maeseneer for a recording of commissioned works he made in 2024 with his own band, Brass Band Willebroek.The subtitle of 'Three Gods' refers to three mythological Greek Gods: Zeus, Hermes and Apollo. The idea for this came from Gregson's Viola Concerto, which he composed in 2023 and which was similarly subtitled 'Three Goddesses'. Indeed, the first movement of the horn concerto shares some common material with the viola concerto, although the other movements are newly composed.The concerto exploits the noble character of the horn, but the writing is also virtuosic in character as well as lyrical and melodic, demanding an extended playing range of nearly four octaves with a variety of colouration in its sonorities. The unifying motif of the whole concerto is the interval of a rising 5th, heard at the outset. The opening also has some other surprises (both seen and heard).The musical ideas, cast in three separate movements, take their starting point from the characters of the Three Gods in the title:Zeus, ruled as King of the Gods on Mount Olympus, and was the God of Thunder and Lightning and of War. His music is often threatening and violent, but also has a more tender side as portrayed in the lyrical second subject. However, the dominant mood is one of foreboding.Hermes was the great messenger to the Gods who could travel between realms on his winged sandals. Thus, his music is fast, fleet of foot, and mercurial - a dashing scherzo, but with lyrical and expressive moments.Apollo, the God of Music and Dance (and the Sun), symbolises virtue and beauty. This final movement, 'Hymn to Apollo', is mainly slow and hymn-like and cast in a continuous stream of melody passed between soloist and band. Brief fanfares herald a triumphant march, before the music returns to its quiet opening, gradually rising to a triumphant climax with glittering melodic percussion leading the way. The music ends in a blaze of glory!Duration: 17.00
