£114.99Keystone - Thierry Deleruyelle
Keystone tells the story of the Odeon of Vriezenveen, a town in the Netherlands. Historically speaking, "odeon" (or "odeum") was the name for ancient Greek and Roman buildings used for activities such as singing, music and poetry. This was the name chosen in 1998 by several members of the 'Vriezenveense Harmonie' for the cultural centre they decided to have built. The piece starts slowly with the bass instruments, then speeds up in a counterpoint passage where the main motif moves from one set of instruments to another. After a slower section, the music speeds up again to reach a majestic chorale symbolising the splendid Odeon. This composition has been orchestrated for brass band to serve as the test piece in the first division of the French National Brass Band Championship of 2023.

Gemini Concerto was commissioned by and written for Ryukoku University (Japan), Andre Henry and Shoichiro Hokazono. Set in three movements, the concerto aims to explore the close relationship, as solo instruments, between the cornet and euphonium, exploiting the many common factors between the two as well as the subtly different characteristics they possess in terms of both lyrical and rhythmic playing. The first movement is a bustling toccata and the second movement is lyrical and improvisatory in nature. A fantastic piece and a great addition to the repertoire!

Walt Disney Pictures movie Vaiana from 2016 tells the story of Vaiana, the strong-willed daughter of the master in a Polynesian tribe. She is elected by the sea to reunite a mysterious relic with a goddess. When a disease affects the island she lives on, Vaiana set sails searching for Maui, a legendary demigod. Her goal is to save her people. The great theme song from the movie, How far I'll go, is magnificent and original and has elements of folk music. The song is nominated for Oscar in the Best original song-category. The modulation in this arrangement is re-written a semitone to make it fit our Young Band Entertainment-series.

Few operas have had such a remarkable history as Mussorgsky's masterpiece Boris Godunov. It exists in no less than three complete versions by the composer himself, as well as posthumous editions andorchestrations by Rimsky-Korsakov (from which this arrangement is taken), Shostakovich and others.The Coronation Scene is set in the Square of the Moscow Kremlin, between the Cathedral of the Assumption and theCathedral of Archangel Michael, the year is 1598. After being crowned as Tsar, Boris Godunov acknowledges the people's acclamations and the bells of the two cathedrals, as well as many churches within the vicinity, canbeheard ringing out across St Petersburg.Available here are the score and parts for Mussorgsky's Coronation Scene (Boris Godunov), as arranged for Brass Band by Phillip Littlemore.

The young have the future. This is the statement made at the beginning of 'Like a Child' by Andreas Ludwig Schulte. The opening radiates strength and ambition, but one is also made to wonder which direction will be chosen, which choices will have to be made.After the introduction the first steps on the path of life are taken, still somewhat unsteadily (the 3/4th time used illustrates this uncertainty). However, the child has now set off and will meet the future with an open mind, unafraid, even though experience will teach it how easily it can be hurt.Fortunately, it is sometimes allowed to be vulnerable and it discovers there will always be someone to offer shelter,support and love. (Adagio) The last part breathes a far greater independence. Youth is able to face the future, it can even take on the whole world!

"By the Fjord" is written by the Norwegian composer Kjetil Bjornstad and is the most famous song from the musical work "Leve Patagonia" which was published in 1978. The work is written as a modern suite about the Oslo Bohemians Hans Jaeger and OdaLasson sitting in a pram on the fjord a summer night. Odas sister sees the couple on the sea from her window and tells us the story.Kjetil Bjornstad wrote "By the Fjord" in his house outside Tvedestrand early spring 1978. He was initially notfully satisfied and considered disposing it. The beautiful music has luckily made the song a classic in Norwegian music.To the conductorThis arrangement can be used with both vocal andinstrumental soloist. Its always a challenge toarrange songs with many verses that tells a story if it is to be played by an instrumental soloist instead of a singer. "Dancing Trolls" is a sequel to "The Battle of the Hats", which was published in 2015. Like "The Battle of the Hats", "Dancing Trolls" is a piece of music based on Norwegian traditional dances. This time around,its the reinlender dance which takescentre stage.The music is composed by Oystein Olsen Vadsten who keeps the strong melodic and tempo, which is dear to this kind of dance. Admittedly given a make-over with a more rhythmic accompaniment and more exciting harmonization.Thismakes it a fun piece, both to Listen to and play. The reinlender dance derives from the Rhineland in Germany,and is also known as the German Polka.To the conductor:Because this is a dance form whichis dependent on the right "swing",it is of great importance to keep as close to the metronome mark as possible. A steady groove, primarily specified by the drum set, is also essential for a good result. Remember to keep a good balance between the melody carrying instruments and theaccompaniment. Good luck and have fun with this "crazy" little tune.

Northern Landscapes - Peter Graham
The four movements of Northern Landscapes provide musical mood pictures of various aspects of Northern working life. 1) Industry opens the suite with the bustle of factory machinery, followed attacca by 2) Seascapes which evokes the calmness of local waters during a fishing expedition. 3) Earth Dance references the mining industry where the blackness of the environment is mirrored by the darkness of the music while 4) Flight evokes the path of an aircraft on its maiden journey in this tribute to the aircraft industry. Northern Landscapes has its origins in music written for the Ulster Orchestra Brass Quintet. This revised and updated version for brass band was commissioned by the Boarshurst (Greenfield) Silver Band, with National Lottery funds, supported by the Arts Council of England. It was set as the 2003 National Brass Band Championships Area Third Section Test-Piece.
