The latin title Sollicitus means upset or uneasy is important in terms of the character and form of the work. This work contains several different pcarts, all of them based around a fanfare-like theme which is presented several times. This theme change it's character, form, tonality, rhytmic and tension throughout the piece which triggers the turbulence of the music. Sollicitus is a commission for Midtun Skoles Musikkorps and their conductor Christian Breistein for their participation in the Norwegian Championships for School Bands in 2017. The version for Brass Band was written to Laksevag Musikkforening for their participation at the Norwegian Brass Band Championships 2018.

Frenchman Jules Verne was a pioneer in science fiction during the late 19th Century, penning some classic stories such as Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Around the World in 80 Days - both of which have already been the subject of brass band test-pieces. It was therefore natural for me to choose Verne's 1869 watery magnum opus as the subject for this piece to which there are five sections, as well as an introduction and a finale.THE NAUTILUS. After a mysterious introduction we are introduced to The Nautilus - a fantastical submarine.THE CORAL KINGDOM. We visit awe-inspiring underwater coral formations.SQUID ATTACK. The Nautilus is attacked by a school of giant squid, or 'devilfish'.CAPTAIN NEMO. Captain Nemo is a loner and an eccentric. Some say he is a madman. Soloists of the band help to uncover the character of this enigmatic but powerful figure.MAELSTROM. The Nautilus is dragged into the ocean's deadliest whirlpool but Captain Nemo lives to fight another day.Duration: 12.30

£42.00Silent Night. Franz Gruber arranged for brass band by Andrew Duncan
Silent Night is an Austrian Christmas Carol written by Franz Gruber, (1787-1863). Franz Gruber was an primary school teacher, organist and composer who lived in the village of Arndorf in Austria. Silent Night (Stille Nacht) has become one of the best loved Christmas Carols ever written. This arrangement for brass band imagines Christmas morning in a small Austrian village, such as Arndorf, with the sound of the local church bells ringing out along with the sound of a choir singing Silent Night accompanied by the local band.. The arrangement features the tubular bells playing a simple descending scale, which is also played by muted cornets (2nd and 3rd cornets). After 2 verses of the hymn the coda features a short trombone trio with a jazzy feel which leads into a final scale from the tubular bells and cornets bringing the piece to a peaceful close. SPIRIT OF LIFE (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band Set) - David Catherwood
The song 'Spirit of life' was written in the 1980s for the Ireland Divisional summer music school at which Derick Kane was the Musical Director. The song was later arranged as this sensitive euphonium solo with brass band accompaniment.

Children's Voices SA parts available separately. Op.109 Song of Freedom was commissioned by the National School Brass Band Association to commemorate the Association's 21st Anniversary. The first performance was given on 12th May 1973 at the Harlow Sportscentre by the Netteswell School Band and Choir, conducted on that occasion by the composer. The idea sprang out of a desire by the N.S.B.B.A. to mark it's 'coming of age' by bringing into being a work for chorus and Brass Band which was within the scope of an average School Band and Choir. The four movements are: Prelude; Hymn; Intermezzo; Postlude. Duration: 19:00

"Ascension" was commissioned in 2014 for the Norwegian school band, Hellen Skoles Musikkorps for their 60th anniversary.The piece is based on two themes, processed through rhythms, chords and solos in various time signatures.The title, "Ascension" which means rising, is central for the main thematic material and describes the band's hard work for a coming event (concert or a contest) where the musical level is ascending/rising.
