Two years after the inaugural BrassFestUK event comes the anthem for 2019, 'The Essence of Brass'. Composer Gavin Somerset has revisited many of the ideas contained within the very popular work written for the inaugural BrassFestUK, The Spirit of Brass two years ago, to deliver once again, an uplifting original work for Brass Bands that will keep both players and audiences entertained. The piece opens with the work's heroic theme which has a genuine feel-good factor throughout, making this year's anthem a sure hit with all bands once again. NB. This Youth Band edition also works alongside the original senior band version.

This famous work Rimsky-Korsakov has been wonderfully arranged by Adrian Horn as a real showcase feature for quartet and brass band. The quartet features your band's Cornet, Tenor Horn, Euphonium & Eb Bass players, all taking a pivotal role in this face paced and virtuosic piece. Originally written for an opera, The Tale of Tsar Saltan; this work whilst incidental in the opera, has become one of the most famous classical pieces of all time. £29.50Friends of the Band - Ron Glynn
This lively new Concert March, "Friends of the Band", was written in recognition of those friends and supporters of all Brass Bands whose help financially and in all other ways, are invaluable in the successful running of the organisations. There is a slight hint of the song, "Dear Old Pals, Jolly Old Pals" in the first section which again embeds the feelings all players and conductors have towards our band's supporters. The work was originally composed for the Hook Norton Brass Band, when the composer's wife gave so much of her time encouraging supporters to become friends. This is a great addition to all bands' libraries and a way to pay tribute and thanks.

The Farewell Symphony - Joseph Haydn - Neville Buxton
Composed in 1772, Haydn's Symphony No.45, better known as the "Farewell Symphony" due to the circumstances of which it was composed. Haydn's employer, Prince Nikolaus became so attracted to his Eszterhaza Castle, he spent longer and longer there each year. The court musicians were not allowed their families with them and became increasingly depressed. This symphony was composed in such a way, that during the last movement, one by one, each player blew out their candle, and crept of stage. The idea being that the prince would get the subtle hint. The next day, the court returned to Vienna! Arranged in the same way, players able to walk off one by one, a perfect ending to a concert, or first half.

This new take on the much loved children's Nursery Rhyme is a great way to showcase your band's cornet players with a playful, yet in parts, challenging cornet trio. Nobody knows for certain to whom the song refers, however several candidates include Prince Frederick (Duke of York and Albany), Richard (Duke of York) and James II (formerly the Duke of York). Mademoiselle from Armentires (also known as Hinky Dinky) was one of the most popular songs of World War One and known in many versions, often with extremely dubious lyrics! The origins of the jaunty melody are not certain but it could date back as far as the 1830's and may be a French military tune. The instructions on 'standing' and 'sitting' are intended as a guide only and should be adapted to suit the needs and athleticism of individual bands! A perfect addition to a band's repertoire in this WWI Centenary year.

In The Pines - Traditional - Max Stannard
Whilst the song may not be familiar with some, this traditional American folk song is believed to date back to the 1870's. With various other titles including 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night?' and 'Black Girl', this work has been recorded by numerous artists over the years and was in 1993, introduced to a new generation when it was performed by the US band, Nirvana. Max Stannard's haunting setting brings your audience in with the haunting melody before shifting gears into a great jazz-waltz section. Featuring several soloists, this is a great entertainment items and a good showcase for concerts and contests.

In Memoriam - Arthur Sullivan - Neville Buxton
Written before teaming up with W.S. Gilbert, the first performance of "In Memoriam" was in 1866 at the Norwich Festival. Just before Sullivan started the composition, his father passed away. Sullivan turned his grief to the completion of this overture. It is also thought that the work was initially inspired by a poem of the same name by the Lord Tennyson Alfred. The overture enjoyed much success during Sullivan's lifetime, although sadly is seldom heard today. This arrangement of the work is the 2013 set test piece for the Butlins Mineworkers Open Brass Band Festival, 2nd section.

King Of The Road - Rodger Miller - Lee Rogers
If there was one song that would encapsulate the laid back, easy-going nature of the bass trombone player - this is it! Roger Miller's classic 1964 song has now been skilfully arranged by Lee Rogers which can feature either the bass trombone or Eb Bass. The band parts also enjoy the laid back nature of the soloist with the melody featuring throughout different sections. Recorded by Dean Martin, The Proclaimers, Jerry Lee Lewis & countless other, this item is pure entertainment and just begs for the soloist to endure the "hobo" look as the song's lyrics describes. A must for all bands.
