Living Lord.Comments from the arranger, Tim Paton:Several years ago, I was asked to provide some musical entertainment for a religious festival. It included this duet, which now has a brass band accompaniment. It is musically satisfying, as well as fun for performers and audience.It uses some well known 'Sunday School' choruses, including "This little light of mine" and "Give me oil in my lamp".This is a lively duet, with plenty of typical trombone characteristics - comical obligato, smooth ballad style, and plenty of the famous glissando for which the instrument is renowned.Look and Listen (with piano accompaniment only, courtesy of Tim Paton 2011):

Eric Ball originally made this duet arrangement with piano accompaniment for inclusion in our album Czardas (order code 0078) and it was later transcribed for brass band by Eric Wilson (who was named after the composer!). The Welsh tune is handled in turn by the duettists, one embellishing while the other carries the melody. The accompaniment parts are not difficult making this delightful, somewhat nostalgic, piece ideal for bands of all abilities.

'Song of India' (or more accurately the 'Song of the Hindu') from Rimsky-Korsakov's 'opera-bilina' Sadko provides a technical challenge as well as a musical one, requiring a great degree of control and accurate intonation as the subtly varied chromatic phrases weave their way over a gently undulating, almost hypnotic accompaniment. Although this piece will work without Percussion, the Snare Drum part, which underpins a lot of the piece, will help drive the music forward.2243: The wonders of thy grace (Norman Bearcroft)Herbert Booth's song Within my heart, O Lord, fulfil (S.A.S.B. 211) was the inspiration behind Lieut-Colonel Norman Bearcroft's three-verse setting of the hymn tune Wareham, with the title being taken from the lyrics of verse two.2244: Trombone Solo - I will wait (Andrew Mackereth)Major Leonard Ballantine has an astonishing gift for contemporary song writing. This song is a brilliant example of this, taking the idea of Jesus waiting patiently for us to accept the fullness of his offer of love.This arrangement was made at the request of Andrew Justice, former Principal Trombonist of The International Staff Band. For many years, Andrew has used this song with piano accompaniment. In making this arrangement, the composers aim was to capture the transparency you can create in piano playing.2245: The battle cry! (David Edmonds)Inspired by Lorne Barry's Trinity (F.S. 599), this piece would be well suited as a concert opener but would work in many settings as a contribution to worship. Its main feature is the driving rhythmic pattern in the Bass and Percussion sections. The music needs to be played with confidence and purpose. As the title suggests, it is a strong, inspiring battle cry, corralling the troops. This is a setting of the song by Stuart Townend and Keith Getty, O Church, arise (S.A.S.B. 819), which has become popular in recent years, not only within The Salvation Army, but also the wider Christian church.

'Over Ambion Hill' is a cornet solo with piano accompaniment composed for the Principal Cornet of the Raty Band, Keir-Luc Evans-Brown. Ratby - as a village -is situated within the Bosworth & Hinckley district of Leicestershire, the former of which notorious for it's setting of the 'Battle of Bosworth Field'in 1485 - the final significant battle of the War of the Roses between the houses of Lancaster and York. The battlefield itself was for many years ajudged to be on the site of Ambion Hill where the current Battle of Bosworth visitor centre is situated, but this was later reassessed as being situated a couple of miles South West of Ambion Hill. The battle is synonymous with the death of Richard III, who's cortege passed Ambion Hill on it's way to Leicester Cathedral upon the rediscovery of his remains in 2015.
