VIEW SCORE PDF This trumpet solo was written by Nick Simmons-Smith at the request of Dallas Brass Band for a Christmas concert featuring Elmer Churampi, international trumpet soloist. The solo features three Christmas songs: i. Mi Burrito Sabanero voy camino de Belen (With my donkey of the Savannah, I'm going to Bethlehem) ii. Noche de paz (Silent night) iii. Campana Sobre Campana (Bell above bells, O bells of Bethlehem) These songs are all very popular in Central and South America - including Peru, where Elmer Churampi is originally from. Each tune has been given a different Latin treatment producing a fast-slow-fast festive concert solo. The solo is not long, but each movement could be played individually. Enduring Faith was commissioned by Christopher Ward and the Five Lakes Silver Band and is a lyrical work for brass band that explores the intersection of hope, resilience, and conviction. Designed with a focus on melodic clarity and expressive phrasing, the composition moves through a series of nuanced emotional shifts - ranging from quiet, reflective passages to moments of expansive lyricism and affirmation. The harmonic structure travels through several keys, serving as a musical metaphor for the changing seasons of life. Throughout the piece, the texture is enriched by featured soloists from across the ensemble, including flugel horn, cornet, euphonium, baritone, and trombone. This work is dedicated to Doug and Stephanie Bayne, long-standing members of the Five Lakes Silver Band, in recognition of their commitment to their community and their steadfast support of the ensemble. VIEW SCORE PDF Karl Whelan's Euphonium Concerto with Brass Band is written in three linked movements: I: Prelude II: Aria III: Scherzo The first movement, Prelude, is in a mirror image sonata form and with its menacing ostinato sets the tone for the entire concerto and also introduces material on which the concerto is based. During this movement, the soloist has the opportunity to display their technical ability as well as the extremes of the instruments range. A chord based on the notes of the ostinato signal the beginning of the second movement, Aria. Here, material from the first movement has been weaved together and moves through a multitude of keys, the soloist is able to show the expressive side of the instrument to create an almost yearning, operatic aria. A reiteration of the 1st subject takes us into an almost march like figure at the beginning of the third movement, Scherzo. This is then interrupted both times by dance-like scherzo which, as with the rest of the concerto navigates itself through different keys leading to the cadenza that even the temple blocks have the the chance of participating in! The concerto concludes with almost a battle between the band (playing fragments of the first and second subjects from the first movement), and soloist who is attempting to have the last word! Fanfare Prelude on 'Richmond' was written for the inaugural Texas Brass Fest, held at Round Top Festival Institute on 27 May 2023, for the four premier brass bands in Texas - Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio Brass Bands. It is based on the much loved hymn of the church by Charles Wesley, which is also known as 'O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing', the first verse of which reads: O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace! For maximum effect it is suggested that cornets and trombones are staged stood around the band, although if this is not possible then traditional band formation will be acceptable. This arrangement by Ruben Schmidt is the exciting polonaise finale from the last movement of Tchaikovsky's thrilling Suite No.3 in G Major for Orchestra. This was first performed in Saint Petersburg on January 12th, 1885, at the fifth symphony concert of the Russian Musical Society, conducted by Hans von Bulow. The suite also was Tchaikovsky's first American success when it was performed by the New York Symphony Society at Carnegie Hall on May 7,1891. First intended as its own symphony, it became the most played and most successful of Tchaikovsky's four suites. The finale of the last movement is an invigorating polonaise dance to finish the suite. Tchaikovsky often enjoyed conducting this final movement as an independent work himself. £47.79Finale from Symphony No.3 (Organ Symphony) (Brass Band) Saint-Saens arr. Norbury
Saint-Saens' magnificent Finale from Symphony No.3 (widely known as the 'Organ Symphony') has here been arranged for brass band with optional organ by Kevin Norbury. It was recorded by The International Staff Band on its CD Manuscripts, although this version has been revised in places. Saint-Saens decided to add the organ and piano to his 3rd symphony as a pragmatic orchestration innovation. The composition of this symphony was probably started in 1885 and a first draft was completed in Prague in 1886. Saint-Saens later recalled its eventful genesis: 'The Symphony in C was three-quarters sketched out when I found it impossible to write the finale. I did not know how to resolve this situation, until one night I suddenly woke up and, in a sort of hallucination, I heard the whole finale, which I hastily wrote down in outline, knowing that if I went back to sleep without having put anything on paper, I would have forgotten it all the next day.' The symphony was first performed under the composer's direction at Saint James's Hall in London on May 19, 1886. This arrangement by Kevin Norbury can both function as a stand-alone brass band piece, and be performed with an organ by omitting the notes found in square brackets in the parts and score.
