After the opening fanfare and a call of victory, the music portrays the lavishness of victory with this driving sense of impending conflict. Once again, the victor must go to war and battle the threats. The music continues to express the sorrow and the loss that comes with being the victor. With sacrifice and pain, the victor now grows in passion and motivation to once again conquer the enemies. With a final swift battle, the victor calls out to claim supremacy once again. With its repetitive and foundational bass line and the lyrical imitative themes that follow, this music has proven to be especially well suited as a wedding processional, with the flexibility to reduce or lengthen the music as needed for the occasion. Here it has been arranged by William Himes for brass band with flexible scoring, meaning it is playable by as few as 12 players but works equally well with a traditional size band. VIEW SCORE PDF The arranger, Kenneth Downie writes: 'This music was commissioned by Mike Griffiths, Music Director of Riviera Concert Brass, based in Torquay in Devon, England. It is developed around the hymn tune Margaret, and written in memory of the lady of that name who was a renowned supporter of, and generous donor to the band. The graceful melody was written by Timothy Matthews (1826-1910), and it is usually associated with the words of the hymn, the first verse of which says: Thou didst leave thy throne and thy kingly crown When thou camest to earth for me; But in Bethlehem's home was there found no room For thy holy nativity, O come to my heart, Lord Jesus; There is room in my heart for thee. I feel that there is a strong emotional core to this lovely tune and any performance should seek to bring out this quality, in a musical manner.' PDF download includes score and full set of parts. Love Eternal was arranged by Gavin Lamplough for trombone virtuoso Isobel Daws to perform in a special concert with the Melbourne Staff Band to honour its Bandmaster Ken Waterworth, on the occasion of his retirement after 30 years of leading the band. The arranger uses Jarod Cooper's popular contemporary worship song King of Kings, Majesty as the basis for the work and the piece seeks to provide a vehicle for the rich timbres of the trombone to be enjoyed by the listener. Written in 1851, the Albion Polka was written by Johann Strauss II (or Strauss Junior) and dedicated to Count Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, husband of Queen Victoria of Great Britain. The work takes its title from the old Roman name for Britain. It is not an unfamiliar addition to the Vienna New Year's Concerts.
