September 2017 ReleaseEuphonium Solo - Some Glad Sweet Day (Bernard Tovey realised Bramwell Tovey)This solo was originally the work of Bramwell Toveys father Bernard Tovey, himself a fine Euphonium player. Bramwell Tovey has developed and gathered the original material and presented it for Euphonium Soloist, Derick Kane, to feature with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain in 2015. It employs the old song of the same title and provides a good challenge for the soloist.

£24.50Swanee River - Stephen Foster - Alan Beaumont
The song "Old Folks At Home" over the years has become better known by the lyrics of its first line (Way Down Upon The) Swanee River. The composer Stephen Foster (also known for songs such as "Oh! Suzanna" & "Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair") struggled to find the perfect river to fit his melody, until his brother suggested the "Suwannee" river in Southern Georgia/Northern Florida, although, Foster misspelled the name intentionally to fit the melody line. The song has been the official state song of Florida since 1935. This rousing arrangement by Alan Beaumont will take your audience on a foot tapping, lighthearted journey. With the melody featured in a variety of different styles, the comedy sounds of duck calls, car horns, sirens & other surprises will keep the audience (& players) on their toes. A wonderful addition to any bands library, not to be missed.

This lively new Concert March, "Friends of the Band", was written in recognition of those friends and supporters of all Brass Bands whose help financially and in all other ways, are invaluable in the successful running of the organisations. There is a slight hint of the song, "Dear Old Pals, Jolly Old Pals" in the first section which again embeds the feelings all players and conductors have towards our band's supporters. The work was originally composed for the Hook Norton Brass Band, when the composer's wife gave so much of her time encouraging supporters to become friends. This is a great addition to all bands' libraries and a way to pay tribute and thanks.

Whereas 'Auld Lang Syne' may be considered the best-known Scottish song ever, yet at the same time it is an obscure one, for there are but few people who know the complete text by heart. After the familiar 'Should auld acquaintance be forgot .....' many people take their refuge to lyrics like 'rum tee dum ta dee ..... lah, lah, lah ........... for auld lang syne'. Even in Scotland only a handful of persons know the entire text and are able to give a correct rendering of it. The current lyrics have been attributed to the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Burns, however, he did not write the whole poem : after he had heard an old man sing the centuries-old Scotchballad, he wrote it down and added a number of stanzas (1788). Historical research teaches us that the ballad served many purposes, both political and religious. Nowadays, 'Auld Lang Syne' is sung as a Christmas Carol and it is also sung on New Year's Eve at the turning of the year. Apart from that, though, the song is also sung on many other occasions sometimes with different lyrics, which usually have Love, Friendship and/or Parting as their themes, as these go well with the fascinating melody. In this arrangement a low-sounding solo instrument is central. The harmonization in the accompaniment fits in perfectly with the sentiments this song will evoke. Should auld acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind? Should auld acquintance be forgot. And days of auld lang syne? Who can Sail without the Wind is an old folk tune from Aland in Finland. I believe the song was one of the first one I learnt to sing and play on the guitar. The melancholic character of the song is something I have brought with me ever since.
