This opener was written for the 10th anniversary of Brass Band Midden Brabant (BBMB), the composer's own band. A soft and lyrical middle section follows on the powerful opening fanfare which, if the technical equipment is available, can be used as background music for a spoken text or presentation. The finale is distinctly rhythmical in character, and develops into a somewhat unusual ending. Here, the composer piles ten different notes on top of each other, representing the BBMB anniversary in a musical way. At a later date the composer made two new versions of Signature, namely for wind band and fanfare.Duration: 3:30

When the publisher asked me to make an arrangement of an ABBA tune, S.O.S. was the first song I thought of. Its introduction and melody are well suited to play for Wind Band. Admittedly, the key had to be shifted to make it sound good for this instrumentation. To me, this is nostalgia, while for others, the Mamma Mia movie/show will be what they associate with this wonderful song. Apart from a few medleys, few of ABBA's songs are available to Wind Band. So, it was very fun to work on this classic.The arrangement is made quite simply to fit many sizes of Bands. Technically, it is also relatively simple both in range and rhythm. As you can see, there are many ways to adjust this arrangement to your own ensemble. Bring out melody lines and the bassline, and a lot is done. "Viking Saga" was inspired by my conducting engagements in Norway in the 1980s. Among them was a visit to the Flekkefjord Pike Korps who asked me to write a piece for them. I had just written "Adventures in Brass" which was very popular, particularly with younger bands, so I decided to pursue the creative energy. My teacher, at that time, was Professor Edward Gregson who encouraged me to develop my ideas into a full-scale work. The piece received a few performances in this version but neither I, nor my teacher, were satisfied so the manuscripts lay dormant. In the summer of 2002 a band from Switzerland- Cordula Brass Baden and Christoph Moor, who had played the piece under mydirection in the Swiss National Youth Band, commissioned me to finish the work and make the changes that, I felt, were needed. In 2016 the Tonsberg Wind Band, from Norway, commissioned a wind band version for their performance in the Norwegian Championships held in Trondheim 2017.

At last here we have an interesting and quite playable solo concert for the tuba, a too often undervalued wind instrument. This concerto was written for and dedicated to the Portuguese tuba player Adelio Carneiro. Composer Carlos Marques who wrote already some successful pieces for Molenaar Edition such as 'Cassiopeia' and 'Transit of Venus' warrants an accessible and excellent wind band orchestration.

Origins - Peter Meechan
Origins is in three movements, with each movement having a different subject matter, all linked by the idea of origins: the first movement refers to musical origins; the second to the origins of life; and the final movement to the space exploration - the research of all origins. The first movement is based on a short motif, heard in the first three notes the soloist plays. These three notes cover the interval of a minor third (an interval that often plays a crucial role in my music) on which the whole concerto is built. The soloist and accompaniment interplay freely throughout the opening section, before an ostinato accompaniment appears - over which the soloist sounds a long legato melody. A short cadenza follows and a return to the opening material leads the movement to an end. The second movement, titled Harryas Song, is - as tradition dictates - a slow movement. Happy and reflective in nature, the main melody was written on the evening that my closest friend, Mark Bousie (a fine euphoniumist himself), and his wife Jayne, had their first child - Harry Bousie. It seemed only fitting that this song should be written for Harry in celebration. The final movement brings me back to a lifelong fascination with space, and in this particular movement, the Space Shuttle Discovery. Having completed 39 missions (including flying the Hubble telescope in to orbit), and spent a total of 365 days in space, SS Discovery made its final voyage in 2011 and was taken to the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. in April 2012. This final movement, titled Discovery, pays tribute to the great shuttle whose missions inspired millions across the generations. Origins was commissioned by Marco Schneider, Adrian Schneider and the Dunshan Symphonic Wind Orchestra, Beijing, China.

Good Night Suite is written for beginning band and suitable for the youngest musicians. The level of difficulty is at lowest grade and the rhythms are equal in all wind parts. The register on each instrument is also customized to each part. Some easy solos appears in some sections and in Mvt. 4 there are different rhythm in the melody and bass parts. The level of difficulty is the same for all five movements. The movements may of course be played as single pieces. When all movements are mastered it's possible to play the suite as a kind of fairytale with simple dramaturgy or choreography. Maybe the whole band can be dressed in their pajamas?

The word Bombazine is derived from the obsolete French word Bombasin. Largely made in the Norwich area, Bombazine is a twilled fabric made of silk used mainly in dress making and popular in England in the reign of Elizabeth I. The image and feel of warm, smooth, opulent silk is aptly suited to a solo feature for tuba. Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs and the RAF Music Service commissioned Blue Bombazine for solo tuba and brass in 2014, for Senior Aircraftman Jonathan Gawn and the RAF Central Band. It was first performed at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, on the 11th April 2015 at the British Festival of Wind Bands. The music is written in the jazz idiom with a testing solo part. It is available with brass band accompaniment or for ten brass with tuba solo. Duration: 5.00. Suitable for 1st Section Bands and above
