This arrangement is dedicated to the memory of a much-loved friend and wonderful cornet player, Stephen Howard. Stephen played with the Clacton-on-Sea Band, conducted by his father Robert, and was a frequent guest with the G.U.S. Band directed by Dr. Keith M Wilkinson. Indeed, only a few weeks before his untimely death in 1984, Stephen had played principal cornet with the G.U.S. Band on a tour of Switzerland, performing outstandingly at each concert.The arrangement was first performed at Stephen's Memorial Service in October, 1984."Changed from glory into glory,Till in Heaven we take our place,Till we cast our crowns before Thee,Lost in wonder, love and praise." Whirlegigg is the middle English word for a contraption that continuously spins. A great fascination with many inventors of the medieval period was to develop a perpetual motion machine constantly turning and giving off energy. This idea is particularly apt for this piece. A simple ternary structure gives ample opportunity for both boisterous and reflective material with gyrating accompaniment figures never far away. The machine almost stops near the end, but finally musters one last burst of excitement and energy to bring the work to its close. Suitable for 1st Section Bands and above. Duration: 5.00

Gospel Brass Machine
A funky upbeat piece that will go down a storm with both band and audience alike.Mark Taylor wrote the trumpet feature Scream Machine for a vinyl album of the same name released in 1985 by the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble. Featuring four 'screamer' trumpet parts, it was later published in a slightly simpler version called Brass Machine. This arrangement for brass band includes a middle gospel section.

Peterloo is the derisive name given to an incident that happened on16th August 1819 in St Peters Fields, Manchester, when an orderly crowd of some 80,000 people met to hear a speech on political reform. On the orders of the magistrates they were interrupted by the Yeomanry, who attempted to seize the banners they carried, and to arrest their speaker, Henry Hunt. Cavalry was sent in, and eleven people were killed and four hundred injured in the ensuing panic. This overture attempts to portray these happenings. Suitable for 1st Section Bands and above. Ralph Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto was written in 1953/4 in response to an invitation to compose a work for the Golden Jubilee of the London Symphony Orchestra. Vaughan Williams was by then in his eighty-second year. The lively, outer movements both conclude with extended cadenzas, while the beautifully lyrical Romanza is Vaughan Williams at his best. New York is the third movement of East Coast Pictures, originally written for wind band, commissioned in 1985 by the British Youth Wind Orchestra with funds from National Westminster Bank plc. These three short pictures were inspired by several visits by the composer to a small part of the USAs East Coast, an area that provides great extremes in the geography and the people.
