£25.00Carol of the Bells (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Littlemore, Phillip
This popular Christmas piece was composed by Mykola Leontovych around 1916. It is based on a Ukrainian folk chant known as 'Shchedryk', a New Year's carol. However, it was not until after the composer's death in 1921 that it was first introduced to Western audiences, when the Ukrainian National Choir included it on their tour of Europe and the Americas that same year. The film composer John Williams incorporated it into the score for the 1990 film Home Alone and he is credited for bringing it to a wider audience still, although it had been released on Christmas albums by a number of popular artists before that. This transcription for brass band has been adapted from the arrangement by Robert Prizeman, who created it for Libera, the world famous boys choir that he both founded and directs. Their unique, enchanting and, some say, heavenly sound delights audiences throughout the world through extensive concerts, recording and TV broadcasts. A delightful set of three Christmas carols expertly adapted by Philip Doe. This suite of three pieces opens with Christmas Day, a dainty and light opening that shows the more delicate aspects of brass playing. The centre piece is a new version of The Coventry Carol, which open with a first verse rendition for quartet before developing a more baroque-style treatment that sits over an ostinato bass line. The movement reaches its climax with flourishes from the cornets leading to a rendition of the carol at fortissimo, and treated with slightly altered, harmonies before coming to rest with the opening quartet delivering the tierce de Picardie. The final movement is I Saw Three Ships, with handy interjections from several other carols, making a rousing climax to a enjoyable set of three Christmas portraits. Duration: 7.00

£87.99Sunday in the Park (Tenor Horn Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts)
Sunday in the Park was written for tenor horn virtuoso Sheona White, and commissioned by her partner, Matt Wade, as a Christmas present. Composer Philip Sparke had known and admired Sheona's playing for many years, having produced her first solo CD and written pieces for her previously. Both composer and performer are huge fans of the late Karen Carpenter, Sheona in part modelling her sound on the singer's sultry voice; so it was decided that this new solo would be a piece which, whilst not being a 'Carpenters' pastiche, paid tribute to their relaxed style and rich harmonic language. Sunday in the Park opens with an accompanied cadenza for the soloist, which leads to a gentle rhythmic melody with a laid-back feel. This is taken up by the band but the soloist sparks a change of mood by introducing a faster light rock interlude. This reaches a climax, at which point the music unwinds until the original mood returns. A variation on the original melody leads to a short cadenza from the soloist, which brings the work to a peaceful close.Duration: 7:00
