HYMN TO BAROSSA (Brass Band Score) - Scott, Andy

Brass Band score only. Scored for brass band (without percussion), 'Hymn to Barossa' is a re-scoring by the composer of the hymn section from 'Battle of Barossa'. This new arrangement is a melancholy and melodic hymn that mid-piece features a poignant cornet solo. 'Hymn to Barossa' gradually builds, but deliberately only so far, and is a statement of controlled emotions. Dur: 2:30

Who Wants To Live Forever (Brass Band - Score and Parts)

Who Want to Live Forever is a rather grim title given Freddie Mercury's untimely death, but his songs, and especially his recordings with Queen will live on forever. The title refers to the immortal Connor MacLeod from the movie Highlander, and reached number 24 on the British charts. Now Thijs Oud's arrangement lets this song live on forever as part of your brass band's repertoire. 05:00

Drink to me only (Flugel Solo with Brass Band) Trad. English Melody arr. Bowen

The title of this flugel horn solo derives from a 17th century English poem by Ben Johnson that begins 'Drink to me only with thine eyes, and I will pledge with mine'. Its familiar melody is attributed to Colonel R. Mellish (1777-1817). This solo setting was written for the New York Staff Band in 1991. Within The Salvation Army church, the melody is associated with a religious lyric by William Drake Pennick (1884-1944) that begins 'There is a holy hill of God, its heights by faith I see'. (The Song Book of The Salvation Army, No. 627). The New York Staff Band recorded the solo on its 1992 CD, Under Three Flags (Triumphonic TRCD 1050). From Waterloo To The Somme - Brass Band - LM774

COMPOSER: Traditional, Rossini, Will D. Cobb & Frederic WeatherlyARRANGER: Laurie JohnstonA great collection of war songs from The Battle of Waterloo to The SommeThe four main melodies in this piece are..1 Over the hills and Far Away. This song dates back as far as Queen Anne but was popular among soldiers during the Napoleonic Wars. Probably the most well known version these days is that by John Tams from the television series Sharpe.2 The Green Hills of Tyrol. This is one of the oldest tunes played by pipe bands today although originally written by Rossini for the William Tell ballet music. Pipe major John MacLeod of the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders heard it played by a Sardinian Military band during the Crimean War and transcribed it for pipes as a tribute to the number of VC's won by Scottish regiments in this conflict. It became very well known when Andy Stewart took the tune for his song The Scottish Soldier.3 Goodbye Dolly Gray. This is a music hall song by Will D. Cobb and was popularised as a Boer War anthem. It was written during the earlier Spanish - American and held it's popularity through to the first world war.4 Roses of Picardy.Written by Frederick Wetherly in 1916 it became a very big hit with the soldiers fighting in the trenches. Picardy is a region of northern France where the Somme battlefields are to be found which among other things possibly accounts for the songs great popularity. It sold on average 50.000 copies a month during the great war.

Repton (Sir Hubert Parry arr. by David Grace) - Brass Band Sheet Music Full Score & Parts - LM557

COMPOSER: Sir Hubert ParryARRANGER: David Grace"Dear Lord and Father of Mankind" is ahymnwith words taken from a longer poem, "The Brewing of Soma" by AmericanQuakerpoetJohn Greenleaf Whittier. The adaptation was made byGarrett Horderin his 1884Congregational Hymns. In many countries the hymn is most usually sung to thetune"Repton" byHubert Parry; however, in the United States, the prevalent tune is "Rest" byFrederick Charles Maker. The text set appears below. Some hymnal editors omit the fourth stanza or resequence the stanza so that the fifth stanza as printed here comes last.If sung to Parry's tune, "Repton", the last line of each stanza is repeated. It is often customary, when singing the final stanza as printed here, to gradually sing louder from "Let sense be dumb...", reaching a crescendo on "...the earthquake, wind and fire", before then singing the last line "O still, small voice of calm" much more softly.Dear Lord and Father of mankind,Forgive our foolish ways!Reclothe us in our rightful mind,In purer lives Thy service find,In deeper reverence, praise. In simple trust like theirs who heardBeside the Syrian seaThe gracious calling of the Lord,Let us, like them, without a wordRise up and follow Thee.O Sabbath rest by Galilee!O calm of hills above,Where Jesus knelt to share with TheeThe silence of eternityInterpreted by love! With that deep hush subduing allOur words and works that drownThe tender whisper of Thy call,As noiseless let Thy blessing fallAs fell Thy manna down.Drop Thy still dews of quietness,Till all our strivings cease;Take from our souls the strain and stress,And let our ordered lives confessThe beauty of Thy peace.Breathe through the heats of our desireThy coolness and Thy balm;Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,O still, small voice of calm.

Second to None - Philip Sparke

Second to None is a perfectly suitable title for this work, though it actually refers to "Nulli Secundus", the motto of the British Corps of Army Music, who gave the commission to Philip Sparke. The piece opens with a fanfare, followed by two short quotes from two of the Corp's own marches and a festive Vivace. A more legato central section creates a nice contrast before the work closes with the opening fanfare. A perfect affair!
