Based on Deck the Halls. This carol has its origins in 16th Wales. The melody, which dates from the 16th century, comes from the winter carol of that time "Nos Galan" (New Years' Eve). The lyrics were written by the Scottish composer Thomas Oliphant in 1862. This truly celtic carol is sung throughout the Christmas, Yuletide and New Year season. This arrangement steps away from any celtic 'feel' and instead presents the material in a full-on swing style. Duration: 2.30

The Wexford Carol, sometimes known by its first verse 'Good people all this Christmas time', is of uncertain origins and while it is occasionally claimed to be from the early Middle Ages, it likely was composed in the 15th or 16th century based on its musical and lyrical style. This stunning arrangement by Andrew Wainwright was originally scored for orchestra and has here been set for brass band. The layering of textures is magical and depicts perfectly the wintery moods and landscapes evocative of the Irish countryside. PDF download includes score and parts. The Dreaded Groove and Hook is an up-tempo acid-jazz number that draws inspiration from bands like Jamiroquai and The Youngblood Brass Band. The groove in question is the main tune that is shared round the band, whilst the hook, in 'pop' terms, is the catchy bit of the song. The whole band joins in to play a huge 'riff' that acts as a chorus to the jazz-like verses.The piece was commissioned by Jason Katsikaris and The Leyland Band, who gave the first performance as part of their programme for the Brass in Concert Championships, held at The Sage, Gateshead on the 16th November 2008. "The Coventry Carol" dates back to the 16th century and is one of three songs from a nativity play entitled "Pageant of the Shearman and Tailors" which was traditionally performed in Coventry. The carol itself depicts the "Massacre of the Innocents" in the nativity narrative from the "Gospel of Matthew", in which King Herod, orders the execution of all baby boys under the age of two in the vicinity of Bethlehem. In this Rhapsody, Karl Whelan takes the familiar tune and turns it into an impressive showcase for bands looking to give the audience something different and very enjoyable for their festive concerts.

VIEW SCORE PDF The Coventry Carol is an English Christmas carol dating from the 16th century. The carol was traditionally performed in Coventry as part of a mystery play called The Pageant of the Shear Men and Tailors. The play depicts the Christmas story from chapter two in the Gospel of Matthew: the carol itself refers to the Massacre of the Innocents, in which Herod ordered all male infants under the age of two in Bethlehem to be killed, and takes the form of a lullaby sung by mothers of the doomed children. Stephen Tighe has here given this well loved tune an update to allow it to appeal to a broad audience.
