"Sing Sang Sung" is inspired by "Sing Sing Sing" from the legendary 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert by Benny Goodman & His Orchestra. The famous "Jungle Groove" presented by drummer Gene Krupa and the opening riff from the 1938 performance is retained in this brilliant, swinging tune composed by Gordon Goodmin. The style changes from swing to "jungle groove" (with extensive use of tom-toms), is essential for both these tunes. The best sound recording of "Sing Sang Sung" is "Swingin' For the Fences" by Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band released in 2000. But, you should also listen to the original "Sing Sing Sing" from the 1938 Benny Goodman recording as well!

I Believe is a beautiful ballad composed by Eric Levisalles.This arrangement is written for Flugelhorn and Euphonium as soloists with Brass band.You might very well listen to the recording by Andrea Bocelli and Cecilia Bartoli to get an impression of mood and character.This arrangement was done at the end of the corona pandemic and performed for the first time on February 12th 2022, the same day as Norway re-opened after nearly two years of corona-restrictions.

Fakenham Fair - Traditional - A. Cook
The origins of the song Fakenham Fair are somewhat obscure. It was collected by Peter Bellamy, who performed it unaccompanied on his first solo LP, "Mainly Norfolk" in 1968, giving credit to a Peter Bullen of Norwich from whom he had learned it, Bullen in turn giving credit to his grandfather. But beyond that, other than it definitely being a Norfolk folk song, the rest is a mystery.Over the years, Fakenham Fair has become a firm favourite among folk audiences, probably the most famous version being the 2008 recording by folk supergroup 'Bellowhead' which this setting for brass band pays tribute to. A bright, quirky, and bouncy 5:4/10:8 waltz, the band parts dance back and forth from simple time to compound time and back again, giving a constant flow that somehow always feels natural despite the irregular rhythm... but which will also keep your audience guessing where the beat will land next! With solos and features for principal chairs around the band, nobody is left out of the fun. Engaging to listen to and even more so to play, Fakenham Fair is a perfect light concert item for the band that likes to show off their rhythmic and lyrical sides at the same time.

This work was commissioned by the Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School in memory of David Morris, a valued member of both the Summer School and Festival of Brass team. The light-hearted, traditional style March is playable by most levels of bands and following its popularity, has been declared the BIBBSS's signature tune. A donation from each sale of this title is being made to fund the 'Dave Morris Bursary Fund', to aid young people that need financial support to attend the Summer School. Course leader, Steven Mead describes the work as, "A really outstanding composition, based on the traditional March format, but with a freshness and excellent thematic material. It is a brisk march in 6/8 that is a delight to play and to listen to."

On Cloud Nine is a wonderful new concert opener; a vivacious four-minute concert item full of energy and good humour. It begins with a majestic fanfare-like statement. This opening melodic idea re-appears in various forms throughout the piece. The following themes are sometimes a little quirky with fantastic band parts for all players to enjoy. The piece is meant to convey a deep sense of joy which bubbles relentlessly to the surface no matter what else threatens to dampen it. The music is overwhelmingly optimistic in spirit and fun to play as well as listen to.

So Amazing - Traditional - Jonathan Mead
'So Amazing', is a beautiful new hymn tune arrangement from the pen of Welsh Composer Jonathan Mead. The music would create a lovely moment in a concert, where the audience would have time for reflection. The title comes from the words that are often associated with this tune, 'Love so amazing, so divine,'. The tune used, is also well known in the brass band world as, 'The Water is wide'. The music is lovely to play as well as listen to. A must for any Concert Programme.

COMPOSER: Neil LockThis march was submitted to the march composers' competition for "Bandamonium 3"in Hatherleigh, Devon in July 2024. The winning march was played by massed bands at the conclusion of the celebrations on Saturday 27th July 2024. Unfortunately, this march took second place in the competition, behind the march of Paul Pennicotte-Henrie, conductor of Okehampton Silver Band.The march can be played with or without the singing. (Even at the Whit Friday marches, begad!) I suggest that it should be introduced by 3-beat rolls.When played with singing, the "Bandamonium" lyrics (bars 10-13 and 56-57) are to be sung by all players, keeping to their own parts, with appropriate octave adjustment for their individual singing voices. Conductor and percussionists should sing with the main theme (Db and C at bars 10-13, F at 56-57). Listen to the 3rd cornet players!There is an additional part for Singers, in which the trio melody (bars 58 onwards) can be sung by Soprano and Tenor singers at a moderate choir standard. An octave-down option is also provided in the higher bars. This part can be given to "spare" singers within the band, or to singers external to the band if opportunity permits. We Seven, the title of this work, comes from a book by the same name written by the United States's first astronauts. The composer writes: 'In 1959, the United States entered the space race by starting a programme whose main aims included sending a solo astronaut into space and recovering him safely. Project Mercury, as this programme was so called, recruited the first seven American astronauts and successfully sent six of them into space. These men were Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard, and Deke Slayton, and collectively they became known as the 'Mercury Seven.' Through their efforts and those of countless others, the United States Space Program accomplished much with these six flights, including successfully sending an astronaut into space, putting a man in orbit, and keeping him up there for more than 24 hours. In 1962, shortly after Glenn and Carpenter's orbital flights, the 'Mercury Seven' co-wrote the book We Seven and throughout it, the astronauts discuss the events leading from their selection into the programme up through Carpenter's flight in May of 1962. The primary material for the work comes from two sources: the use of musical cryptograms to encode the astronauts names and initials into pitches and the aria 'Un bel di vedremo' from Giacomo Puccini's opera, Madame Butterfly. The inclusion of the latter comes directly from one of Glenn's chapters in the book. Together with a couple of the other astronauts, he would often listen to the opera to unwind from a long day of training. I would like to think that as he was orbiting the Earth that this opera, particularly this aria, would be running through his mind.' This work commemorates the Project Mercury on the 50th anniversary of its conclusion and was written for Joseph Parisi and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Wind Ensemble.
