Freaks! was written for Lisa Sarasini in 2006 and first performed by her with Zone One Brass at the Royal College of Music, London. This tuneful and flamboyant showpiece was inspired by the Tod Browning film of the same name. The 1932 black and white cult classic was banned for many years due to its controversial morality issues and lead characters - real life side show 'freaks'. It is one of the most bizarre things to have ever come out of Hollywood. The introduction is designed to evoke a feeling of awe, and a broad, confident style will set the pattern for the whole arrangement. Contrast in colour has been sought in the scoring but special effects must not be allowed to obscure the melody. The arrangement ends in an atmosphere suggested by the final line of the hymn, 'Lost in wonder, love and praise'.

Vittorio Monti was born on January 6, 1868 in Naples (Italy). His musical education (violin and composition), he enjoyed at the conservatory there. Around his 30's Monti went to Paris. He earned a living as a conductor and wrote several ballets and operettas. In his last years, Monti died in 1922, he devoted himself to teaching and composing. His famous "Czardas" has made his name known even today. Initially the czardas was a Hungarian folk dance , but after the mid-nineteenth century it was even a dance for the upper-class. Czardas begins with a slow introduction, the Lassan (slow and sad), and then the fast part, Friska, follows. Czardas is not, as so many people think typical gypsy music.Duration: 5.30

Pascual Marquina (1873--1948) was a Spanish bandleader who wrote music for his band to play at bullfights in Madrid. Espana Cani means Spanish Gypsy Dance. The music is popular amongst ballroom dancers as a Paso Doble. The Paso Doble is traditionally used as introduction music for a bull fight and is the music used to usher in the matadors, picadors, horses and bandilleros. Espana Cani was written in 1925 and is suitable for all grades of band.

The story of Daedalus symbolises human ingenuity, and epitomises the complex relationship between human creativity and its consequences. His myths explore themes of innovation, pride, and the perilous balance between human ambition and natural limits. After designing the labyrinth for King Minos, Daedalus and his son, Icarus, were imprisoned in a tower in Crete. Daedalus fashioned wings from feathers and wax, and father and son set out on their ill-fated escape.
