This substantial work by Jan de Haan explores the many tonal qualities of the brass band. Following a quiet opening theme based on Phrygian tonality the band bursts into life with a massive climax. Following a jolly second theme characterised by large interval jumps peace and quiet is again restored. Both themes are developed with many poignant solo figures until we reach a resounding fortissimo climax with the solo cornet performing the first theme from the back of the auditorium. A spectacular concert work containing all the elements that bring out the best in brass band sound.

Jacob de Haan arranged the famous piece Amazing Grace for four-part variable ensemble, which may be complemented with percussion. With this intrumentation, it is possible to play the piece with almost any combination of instruments.The piece opens with the song theme, which after a modulation, flows into an intermezzo, characterized by a free interpretation of the theme. The interlude reaches a climax introducing the finale where the melody can be heard once again in all its beauty.

This arrangement by Klaas van der Woude willput the musicians as well as the audience in a happy mood.

In this beautiful composition, melodic fragments of the hymn tune Beecher are morphed into a series of variations, showing the melody in various moods from expressive, then quiet and soft, to bright and triumphant in the end. Written as a testpiece in the 4th division for the Dutch Brass Band Championships in 2015, the music features challenging solo parts for cornet, soprano cornet, flugelhorn and euphonium. This is the main theme from the movie "Gaten Ragnarock" (2013) superbly composed by Norwegian composer Magnus Beite. The music is narrative with long, melodic lines combined with a rhythmic drive. This arrangement tries to capture the symphonic expression from the original orchestral score. There are several unison lines. Intonation, balance and phrasing are important to make these sounding as good as possible. Clear articulation in the rhythmic passages are also important. The piece is very evocative and may fit very well into any concert program.

The work, set as the test-piece for the 2005 European Brass Band Championships was inspired by a theme from the second movement of Tchaikovsky's String Quartet No.1 (Andante Cantabile). It consists of a number of musical metamorphoses on the theme and includes several excerpts from Tchaikovsky's Fourth and Sixth Symphonies and Romeo and Juliet. The most unconventional element of the work is instrumentation for ten tuned bottles to be played by members of the Cornet section. This gives the piece an Indonesian Gamelan effect. Why not give your players something to get their teeth into with this impressive major new work.

Composed October 2014 by Ray Farr, based on a religious folk-song, or psalm, from Valdres in Norway. The words to the hymn, which was written by Olof Kolmodin in 1742, warn us to 'tread warily, my soul'. Ray has adapted the music into a lively Norwegian-style dance with an equally strong warning for people not to tread on anyone's toes. The piece was first performed at the Brass in Concet competition "Siddis Brass" by Jaren Hornmusikkforening in November 2014.
