Isaac Watts (1674-1748) wrote the lyrics of "There is a land of pure delight" and is known as the "Father of English Hymnody". Watts was for the English hymn as Ambrose was for the medieval Latin hymn and what Martin Luther was for the German chorale. He wrote about 750 songs, and some of them survide the ravahes of time. (Joy To The World, When I survey the wondrous cross, I sing the Mighty Power of God) "There is a Land of Pure Delight" is usually in English-speaking areas sung on Luther Orlando Emerson's melody ('Ascription'). Here is used a traditional English melody ('Mendip'). There is a land of pure delight Wheresaints immortal Reign. Infinite day excludes the night, And pleasures banish pain.

"Why Not?" is the most well-known piece by Dominican Republic pianist/composer Michel Camilo. It appeared for the fist time on his 1984 album record "French Toast". He re-recorded it in 1985 for the "Why Not?"-album whoich is among his best-selling to date. The song has also been recorded by other artist like the vocal group The Manhattan Transfer. "Why Not?" ia a modern latin-jazz classic and this demaning arrangement for Brass Band captures the featureless and musical challenges of the original piece.

The march was performed during a series of brass band events which took place at the Crystal Palace, London 1860 - 1863. Enderby Jackson was the organiser of these historically important occasions and also conducted the massed band concerts.The purpose of this scholarly edition is to produce a performing version, clearing ambiguities and errors, that can be enjoyed by today's performers and listeners, bearing in mind the original function and context. At the same time the edition is an analytical, musicological study of one of the rare treasures of the brass band repertory.
