No. 1215 March - Merthyr Tydfil No.34 (Paul Sharman)This march was written at the request of Bandmaster Howard Roberts to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Merthyr Tydfil Corps, corps number 34 in The Salvation Army. The tunes used have obvious Welsh connections wit 'Cwm Rhonnda' and 'Aberystwyth' being featured. 'Aberystwyth' was written by Joseph Parry who lived in Merthyr Tydfil for a while.No. 1216 Mambo - Mighty God (Steven Ponsford)Based on words from Isaiah 9, 'Mighty God' is a song of worship and assurance by Chris Bowater and helen and Mark Johnson. This arrangement will afford bands the opportunity to engage the audience into a lively segment of praise.No. 1217 Song Setting - Jesus, I come (Michael Davis)A setting of George C Stebbins' beautiful melody 'Out of my bondage'.No. 1218 O rock, all ye faithful (William Gordon)The Christmas carol 'O come, all ye faithful' is arranged here in a 'rock' style and includes references to other well known Christmas carols.

ABOUT THIS PIECE: "Korobeiniki" is a nineteenth-century Russian folk song that tells the story of a meeting between a peddler and a girl, describing their haggling over goods in a veiled metaphor for courtship. Outside of Russia, "Korobeiniki" is widely known as the Tetris theme (titled "A-Type" in the game), from its appearance in Nintendo's 1989 version of the game. Originally composed for brass ensemble and percussion, it was created to showcase Orchestral Tools' Beaufort Brass sample library, recorded at the iconic AIR Studios in London. This arrangement by Ruben Schmidt is the exciting polonaise finale from the last movement of Tchaikovsky's thrilling Suite No.3 in G Major for Orchestra. This was first performed in Saint Petersburg on January 12th, 1885, at the fifth symphony concert of the Russian Musical Society, conducted by Hans von Bulow. The suite also was Tchaikovsky's first American success when it was performed by the New York Symphony Society at Carnegie Hall on May 7,1891. First intended as its own symphony, it became the most played and most successful of Tchaikovsky's four suites. The finale of the last movement is an invigorating polonaise dance to finish the suite. Tchaikovsky often enjoyed conducting this final movement as an independent work himself. Je te veux, or I Want You, is a valse chantee (sung waltz) by the French composer Erik Satie, with lyrics by Henry Pacory. It was written for Paulette Darty, who first sang it in 1903 at La Scala, Paris, with Satie accompanying. There are various versions that Satie produced, the original for piano and voice, a version for brass 'orchestra', for full orchestra (where a trio section was added), and a version for solo piano (but including the new trio section). This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass, and is of the longer version (with the trio section). As a result, it lends itself to being performed in a various of ways, with the ensemble has the option of selecting the part of it compound ternary form to play: (A-B-A)(C-D-C)(A-B-A).
