The television series JAG (Judge Advocate General), which was first broadcast in America in 1995, has become internationally known over the years. In Europe, too, people have become acquainted with the legal wing of navy officers and the intrigues surrounding Commander Harmon "Harm" Rabb (David James Elliott) and his partner Lieutenant Colonel Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie (Catherine Bell). Both inside and outside the courtroom they fight with one major aim: winning! In their personal relationships, there's a good deal of tension too. Sprites and Flares (2015), refers to the uncertain activities of sprites (upper atmospheric lightening) and solar flares (solar activity from the sun which cannot penetrate the earth's atmosphere) and uses these two ideas as a basis for the kind of musical material heard within the work - dramatic, swirling motifs, often of a virtuosic nature.The work's dramatic opening ensures the first thirty seconds are high in energy and full of impact. Following this, the music dies down and presents an ethereal atmospheric section, perhaps reflecting the calm before the storm. Before long, the music takes a turn for dramatic, fast, virtuosic playing, all reflecting the theme of the work, and indeed remains in this style through to the close, gaining momentum and becoming ever- more triumphant as the work reaches its close. A huge ending is heard, full of excitement and drama, but more importantly grandeur and rich harmonic-chords.The work was commissioned by and written for Leyland Band and its conductor, Thomas Wyss, as the finale to its 2015 Brass in Concert programme, premiered at The Sage, Gateshead, on 15th November 2015.

£34.95Trusting Faith (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts)
This piece is based on the melody Faith is the victory (T.B. 128) and throughout the solo we follow a person's journey of faith. In the first movement, the bold and confident opening depicts a seemingly strong and certain faith, although perhaps a little naive and immature. The music suggests that if we are certain enough, then we will see our prayers immediately answered and will witness miracles. But what happens when we don't see those miracles happen, or our prayers seem unanswered? Doubt creeps in and the music quickly becomes a full struggle continuing through to the end of the moment.What do you do when you faith amounts to something other than what you thought it to be? The beginning of the second movement reflects this questions and starts hesitantly and full of doubt. Soon, a new melody is introduced, Trusting as the moments fly (T.B. 263). The words of the chorus remind us that true faith should bot be affected by fears or disappointments, that our trust in God should remain. Realising that a faith that holds firm, though being tested over time, becoming deeper and stronger, is a liberating truth. We no longer need to struggle in our strength alone, but can lean on God instead.When we lean on God, reset in his care, and feel. safe in his hands, then faith has really become our victory. We will then become strong disciples who can meet life's various challenges without wavering or being afraid. This is depicted in the final movement of the solo when both melodies, whose messages complement each other, are woven together in an explosive finale.

Fanfare of a Nation (10 Piece Brass Ensemble)
Fanfare of a Nation (2012) was commissioned by the Greater Gwent Youth Brass Ensemble as a short fanfare for ten brass players plus percussion, and was performed in the presence of HM Queen Elizabeth II & The Duke of Edinburgh on the occasion of their visit to Wales to mark the Diamond Jubilee, under its original title The Royal Diamond Jubilee Fanfare. The fanfare has since been performed throughout the UK with both its original instrumentation, and also the extended full brass band version. This short work mesmerizes, dazzles and utilizes the fanfare effects so often associated with the brass family.Instrumentation - 4 x Trumpets, 1 x Horn in F, 3 x Tenor Trombones, 1 x Bass Trombone, 1 x Tuba, 1 x PercussionNote - Trumpet 1 is available in both E-flat & B-flat, Horn in F is available in E-flat, Tenor Trombone and Tuba parts available in both treble or bass clef.

The beautiful hymn tune Ascalon is heard in two complete statement, a free-flowing lyrical section followed by a contrasting section using the phrases of the melody to build to a full final working of the hymn.2231: Salt and light (Mark Feltwell)This original work follows the journey of someone who is finding their way through faith. Using inspiration from Shine, Jesus, Shine and Matthew 5:14, the journey ends with a triumphant fanfare.2232: Hymn Tune Arrangement - Esher (Dudley Bright)A two verse setting of the well know benediction, God be in my head.2233: Song Arrangement - The heart of worship (David Mills)The song The heart of worship (S.A.S.B. 635) speaks of the need to worship without any barriers or obstacles.

Fire in the Blood was commissioned by Dr Stephen Cobb for the 120th anniversary of the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army. The piece was composed for the celebration concert where the ISB were joined by several other staff bands from around the world to perform independently to a sell-out capacity crowd at Britain's most famous concert hall The Royal Albert Hall. Fire in the Blood received its world premier at the 'ISB 120' concert at the Royal Albert Hall on June 4th 2011.With this piece I wanted to acknowledge music that had an impact on me through my Salvation Army upbringing. When thinking of a title for this piece I had no hesitation than to reflect and re-word the Salvation Army's motto under their famous crest 'Blood and Fire'.When composing Fire in the Blood I wanted to use three songs of worship that have been prevalent in the Salvation Army's services over a number of years. Opening with Richard Phillips' setting of Psalm 95, 'Sing for Joy', the music is vibrant and full of energy, I wanted to capture the spirit of the well known words of Scripture. The music then moves into a more reflective section that includes Howard Davies' emotive song melody 'Lord, you know that we love you' and Laurie Klein's worship song 'I love you Lord'.A re-statement of the opening Psalm setting follows and this, in turn, leads into a dramatic and powerful finale that combines two pivotal statements drawn from the slower, reflective section: I love you lord, and I lift my voice to worship you, O my soul rejoice and Lord, you know that we love you with a final flourish from Psalm 95: Come let us sing joy to the Lord!Paul Lovatt-Cooper
